I can understand it to some point, so many people sign up and post stupid questions in [DEV] tagged threads which have been asked and answered multiple times by other members.
It's similar to if there were loads of new members on here every day posting new threads about things that have already been posted, after a while it would get annoying. It doesn't help that most people don't seem to be able to use the search function which would probably give them the answer they go there looking for.
I used to think this, but actually, I've changed my mind recently..
The issue is that information in those domains gets old very quickly, when I bought a Desire HD cheap the other week, the first thing I wanted to do was flash a new firmware on it, so of course, having flashed many devices, popped on the forum, and started searching for all the information..
All I can say is, it became information overload, it took an hour to pick through and distill it all to find what was the latest method..
Even more shockingly, I decided to use the 'step by step' guide that was promoted all over the place, only to find that
A. The apparantly fool proof guide had bits missing, and if you did it verbatim, you certainly couldn't do what you wanted.
B. The one click tools are written poorly and fell over so easily, to which I spent an hour trouble shooting before finding the issue.
C. The downloads linked to where often the wrong versions (Newer ones had been released, some broke the guide)..
I muddle my way through, and sorted it out, without resorting to asking any noob questions, but then I've flashed about 10 different Android devices, so I can read between the lines and use alternate methods that I know work..
This kind of experience has been all too familiar lately, and my sympathy for noobs has increased somewhat, to the point I never act condescendingly, I try to help, point them to the resource, but explain things at the same time.
And I've also had a run in with a Dev over on the Vega forums, he chastised noobs for asking the same question (request) and told them to read the first post (despite not having any pertinent info to their request), and worse, brought out the 'No one donates anyway' card on them..
I tried to educate him that if Donations are validily a concern, you need to work on 'engaging' your customers/users and building a customer base, not shouting and chastising everyone, the notion of engagement/marketing and customers seemed to be something alien.. as was the gross misunderstanding of what engagement works best for a voluntary donation based development model..
As a software developer myself, I see this intolerant and shortsighted/beligerant trait in some people, and IME, it's never been any of the really good developers that do this..
