Xenoblade Chronicles X

I've put so much time into it, and still have so much to do!.

The number of missions available is insane. The Gathering / Bounty missions are fairly straight forward sure, but the Normal (via 'Social') missions and Affinity missions are well thought out with meaningful dialogue and often have interesting and unexpected conclusions.

I finished the main story last night, but feel I'll be playing this actively for another month or so at least.

I finally managed to get the image uploading working on my gamepad (for some reason it wasn't signing in correctly).

Anywhoo, the "crew":

All wearing fashion armour to avoid the total hodge podge of parts they are actually wearing.

I spent most of last night on a clean up exercise of the more basic missions which were starting to back up.

Nice.

You get quite attached to your crew, I love dressing mine up and tinkering with their load-outs - you can lose hours micro managing through the menus.

Btw - that image compression does the game no favours, the game looks just gorgeous naked eye.

Yeah unfortunately that image was straight from the Wii U using its ability to upload images directly (which IIRC is basically a screenshot at gamepad resolution).

The game looks stunning on our new 49" Bravia 4K TV (now I have dialled in the settings properly). It could do with a tad more Anisotropic filtering but then pretty much every console game seems to be lacking it (especially on the PS4) - no idea why as it has been virtually free performance wise since the G70 generation on the PC.

Nearest thing I can think of is perhaps Final Fantasy er whatever number they are at now.

No doubt there are some others than I am not aware of (especially on the PS4).

Honestly I don't really know. JRPG's are not usually my cup of tea at all but XC-X is far enough removed from the core genre that I can't stop playing it.

The image is 1280x720 so it's the proper resolution!

I spent a couple of hours just running around NLA talking to residents... I now have about 20 new quests .

I think screenshots are just always limited to 720p. Xenoblade X is designed to work well the the Wii U's Upscaler / post-processing, which I think is why it looks better on-TV (screenshots don't really capture what the upscaler does to the image).

My current Party and their Skells (140 hours in lol... :o)

Yeah I have just realised that - the image appeared tiny when I uploaded it and I couldn't run full screen at work.

On my TV it looks noticably better than the screenshot I posted (much cleaner) - I can only assume there is a lot of funky techy things going in the background. :)

EDIT: Megalomanic - thanks for the extra detail.

Can I ask, What armour is Elma wearing (visually at least) in the second batch of shots?

I do like how they all look different apart from Lin - who is still visually wearing all her own stuff :D

Yeah the game is rendered at 720p internally then upscaled to 1080p with some post-AA and stuff.

Even if you are running a 1080p rendered game on Wii U though (e.g. Smash Bros, WW HD), screenshots still come out at 720p.

Elma is wearing:

Torso - Valor Suit (Lv. 35)
Legs - Combat Brogs (Lv. 15)
Left Arm - Valor Ward L (Lv. 35)
Right Arm - Valor Ward R (Lv. 35)

Yeah I liked Lin's original look so just kept "Lin's Bodywear" etc :D.

Shame this is a Wii exclusive, this is the first JRPG that genuinely look interesting to me but i'm not getting a WiiU just to play this

Tempted to pick this up on the 3DS, anyone got it on that platform with any comments? I've got the new 3DS XL, the one with the little nub for a second stick.

The game on 3DS is just Chronicles, a little different in style to X from what I hear online.

Hmmm got so many games to wade through at the mo and i keep looking at getting this game. Those screenshots look pretty awesome
Not sure if its my kind of game really but may give this a go soon.

That would be Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. It is effectively the Wii version tweaked squeezed onto the 3DS. Xenoblade Chronicles X is the spiritual successor to the original but isn't technically a sequel. Both games have similar gameplay so I imagine if you enjoy one you would enjoy the other.

I would say it is worth watching some of the gameplay videos on youtube. They give you an idea of what to expect from the game. Be prepared to get overwhelmed from the get go though. X really doesn't hold your hand.

Put around 7 hours into the game over the weekend. Made some decent progress for once (normally end up wandering). Had to re-do another affinity mission as I forgot the game doesn't auto save after every mission... *sigh*.

I thought I had lost Irina at one point as she wasn't where she should have been... luckily it was just a timing thing as she re-appeared a few minutes later. Sometimes the party selection tool leaves a lot to be desired (I moved into the reserve column but she just disappeared instead ).

Ah well, managed a couple of decent pics:

Pigtails in all her glory: (notice the lack of well... er, Pigtails :p)

Changing the look (Think I will change back TBH):

(One again Irina refuses to pose for a picture)

The game just keeps getting better and better.

It really does, even after finishing the story!.

Got the rest of my party some brand new Skell frames, finally.

I still need to work on the equip/builds. I've only really got a proper build on Lin's Skell so far (tank/aggro setup).
