Xeon 3000 series

Any info regarding these chips?

People over at XS found that these will perform better clock for clock with their equivalent Q9xxx series quads and at much lower volts. (500points CPU difference in 3dmark06)

So, an X3350 roughly is a Q9450; but anyone knows when/if these will be available?

They're available in small quantities in the US, and I'm sure OcUK could stock them if they wished to.

Don't Xeons have a different socket? 771 or something.

It depends really, a lot of the Xeons are 771, but there are socket 775 server boards too, we have just put one in a server at work.

They'll work in anything the Q9450 works in.

The 3000 series are 775 and will work on most boards that support the equivalent C2Q , the 5000 series and I think the 7000 series use 771 multi socket design.

I might get a 3350 for 200quid myself, if this works out is essential a Q9450 100 quid cheaper!
