Thought this would be more relevant in GD. Feel free to move if I'm wrong :)

Why does 'the nation' love this oh so much?

From experience, it seems to be the more simple minded general population that can't get enough nor stop talking about the pre-scripted, pre-decided money grabbing nonsense.

Do people actually believe it's all genuine and the acts aren't chosen audition after audition before the scripted, filmed TV version where they're supposedly chosen for singing through an auto tuned mic?

Quiet night in tonight so we switched it on for a laugh... Literally all the contestants were in tears at one point or another(even the gayly dressed guys) because it's such a difficult competition and all they've ever wanted is to be famous. Difficult? Oh please, it's a long holiday in the sun with a bit of singing to a camera with some interviews thrown in for good measure with the possibility of easy money at the end of it.

Is this seriously what everyone aspires to these days? Easy money for a bit of singing on a talent show? 'It's ok darling, we know you're a bit thick, just go on xfactor, say your hamster died and play up a bit, you'll get in the papers at least...'

/Rant :p

For those getting defensive about the simpleton comment. I said 'from experience' meaning folk I've overheard, colleagues, the public and so forth who talk about it constantly and follow avidly are generally rather dim. That's not to say everyone who watches it is. I watched it on Saturday!

It's interesting to hear personal experiences of people who've been to the live auditions and so on! You know it's fake but you don't realise the extent!

Out of all the guys on last nights show, I couldn't honestly tell you which were gay and which were straight  They were all dressed like they'd walked straight out of JLS.

You seem to get awfully defensive about this xfactor stuff dmpoole. Something you're not telling us? Has your band tried to get on the show?
