Thought this would be more relevant in GD. Feel free to move if I'm wrong :)

Why does 'the nation' love this oh so much?

From experience, it seems to be the more simple minded general population that can't get enough nor stop talking about the pre-scripted, pre-decided money grabbing nonsense.

Do people actually believe it's all genuine and the acts aren't chosen audition after audition before the scripted, filmed TV version where they're supposedly chosen for singing through an auto tuned mic?

Quiet night in tonight so we switched it on for a laugh... Literally all the contestants were in tears at one point or another(even the gayly dressed guys) because it's such a difficult competition and all they've ever wanted is to be famous. Difficult? Oh please, it's a long holiday in the sun with a bit of singing to a camera with some interviews thrown in for good measure with the possibility of easy money at the end of it.

Is this seriously what everyone aspires to these days? Easy money for a bit of singing on a talent show? 'It's ok darling, we know you're a bit thick, just go on xfactor, say your hamster died and play up a bit, you'll get in the papers at least...'

/Rant :p

I always see how far down the series I can manage before I catch even a second of it on TV.

Last year I managed almost the entire run, i think it wasn't until the final 3 before i cause 15 minutes of it on the TV.

For a lot of people, gone are the days where anyone can make it. The idea that if you work hard you will achieve success has been shown up as a myth. Xfactor and reality TV is one of the few chances people now see as a realistic chance at changing their social standing for the better, which says a lot about how much trouble society is in.

I think branding everyone who watches it a simpleton is a bit retarded, its an entertainment show, simple as that. With, dare I say it, some genuinely talented people on it.

I think my viewing of it leans more towards Sadism as I only watch the early shows where the Munters & divs get slung out crying. :p

The people on there remind me of those people who think they are going to win the lottery. I can't believe that so many people exist who are in dead end jobs because of lazinesses in their earlier life and think that simon cowell is going to make them famous/rich.

Anyone who thinks they can determine the intelligence levels of 10million people based solely on the fact that they like to watch a singing talent show are surely them selves simpletons.

This is what annoys me..

Act 1, pre-audition VT
"this is all I've ever wanted. I don't know what I'll do if I can't sing ah ma gawd"

Act 1, post-audition VT
"can't believe I've messed it up/done well.. This is what I want to do"

Rinse and repeat for every act.. So annoying to watch

I'd rather hammer my Winkie flat on an anvil than be subjected to watching dross tv which only grade "A" muppets truly appreciate and enjoy.

Yes as well as the annoying music, also why are there so many hit by a bus sob stories? I hate that, it seems as if everyone who has come on has some stupid little lame sob story.
