Hello,

Decided to reorder my desk setup today and unplugged all my stuff to move it around, I use a set of z-5500s with an x fi fatality titanium pcie, after plugging the cables back the center channel "orange" on the sound card gives a crazy amount of static interference from the case and the actual sound being sent is almost inaudibly low volume but is being sent, tried everything today and it is only that orange jack socket.

any ideas why I hear all the case static over the speaker? and why this has suddenly happened.

thanks

ok so basically the center channel of the soundcard is producing loud interference which is directly from components inside the case, makes noise when i move mouse, scroll click etc, what could cause this to happen? it only happens on the center channel, every other port is fine, even the sub that shares the same port as the center is unaffected.

Hmm, that is weird. It is the centre channel, and not the speaker itself? I take it you have tried a different speaker connected to the centre channel?

Having said that, the fact you can hear noise when you move the mouse, would suggest it's nothing to do with the speakers themselves.

its not the speakers, tested it with a pair of headphones directly into the jack, left channel (center) has all the interference from the case and the right channel (sub) is totally fine. The interference starts as soon as I boot, I can even hear the sound of a fan swirling up in the headphone before post. This means it cant be a driver or windows fault.

had no such issues before moving the computer slightly to disconnect and reconnect the audio cables originally. so im stumped!

Yes try re-seating the card, also you can do a reset on the z5500 by using the firmware version method below. I find after doing that it sets the z5500's back as they were when new. Also try another cable the orange one maybe damaged try one of the other colours as a test, but in your case I would use optical anyway.. I Use the optical and only 1 cable then to the pod instead of the messy wires. Also make sure in the x-fi settings you didn't accidentally set some effects sounds or if you have a device with a mic make sure in the audio panel it is muted, or can get some strange feedback and distortions.

2nd Skin: Put the control centre in Standby (eg, subwoofer power switch on, but control centre in standby) then press and hold the following buttons for about 6 seconds: Input, Effect, Settings, and Mute buttons simultaneously. The display should now read "2nd Skin On". Your power button will now be (indigo) or (violet) from the default "red" and the sound bars will also change, although you can change it back to default by doing the same procedure.

Boost Mode: Turn the volume knob up as high as possible, then keep turning. It will now switch to boost mode and get even louder. (Unless you want to kill yourself, I don't suggest this.) Boost up to +11

Up to Boost 22: Hold down the Mute button and turn the volume up, this can be combined with Boost Mode for some serious damage. (Again, Unless you want to kill yourself, I don't suggest this.)

Diagnostic Mode: Put the device into standby, as above, then press and hold Input and Effect buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. The control centre will now show more information about the digital feed it gets from the Coax or Toslink connection for 5 secs (only for digital connections not the analogue ones).

Firmware Version: Use this feature to view your firmware version. (I have v2.1.0 BTW) While on standby mode again, press and hold the following buttons, Input, Effect, and the Settings button for about 2 seconds then press the power button, remove your fingers off all the 4 buttons (including power button), then press the power button again. and Voila!

thanks guys for the responses, its not my speakers, its not my cable, it does it on a set of headphones so is definatley the sound card itself, it does it before post so it cant be drivers or software, changing the pci e slot has no effect,

I got an XFi back when they were released, and these days it does the same but on the front channel IIRC. After all the pain of drivers for 4GB memory I just said sod it and am using the motherboard audio instead!

When the XFi was doing it interference thing I'd just kick the case, that solved it for a few minutes before it came back.

Well I'm stumped TBH. Is it a co-incidence that the card would develop a fault, the same time you put everything back? Unlikely maybe, but what other conclusion is there?

Do you have another system you can try the card in, maybe a friends PC?

stripped cleaned and rebuilt whole pc today, same thing, its bugs me because its 1 single channel from 1 single trs socket, when you think there's 4 output sockets with 2 channels each it is a stupid reason to replace the card, especially when the only thing
I did was remove the 3.5mm cables and put them back in again,

drives me mad.

Try it with an optical/coax cable to the z5500... Maybe by going threw the digital connections it will rid you of that problem. I have same setup as you mate just I use only an optical connection, the other cables are never plugged in.
