Hi guys/girls,

I currently have a Sapphire Radeon 5850 Reference card and am looking to go xfire. Reason why is because I tried to play COD Black ops and well the performance was not good at all! I am running at 1920 x 1080 and even with fancy settings set to low I am still getting frame skips.

Now with reference models being very rare these days could I go with any 5850 and be fine or will this be an issue?

Or would some of you suggest selling up and going for something better? I can spend up to £200 plus whatever I can get for the 5850.

Any input would be much appreciated.

OPS is a badly coded POS, going xfire will not help with performance much, the game that runs in DX9 and looks no better than MW2 but needs a fast quad core CPU lol. If you like the game then hope that the developers sort the performance issues with a patch. Your rig should rip OPS apart, don't let sloppy programing make you waste your cash.

Agreed, it's the game that's having the issues, not your rig. Thing it's it's not across the board, it seems to just affect 'most' people. I'm running a single 5850 and it runs fine for me.
Deffinately don't blow your money just for Black Ops problems.

Hi , i am finding pretty much the same think and i run as in sig , also thought about an upgrade so i guess i will hold fire also , cheers

p.s. how much better is the 6870 anyway?

Have you done the config edit? My game is running very well, evenly loading the cores, not stuttery etc.

My 5850 is hitting the 91fps barrier and dropping a bit when the **** hits the fan but never below 60fps.

Whats the config edit is that in the game or in the system

Here you go :)

Go to your install directory, and open config.cfg and config_mp.cfg in a text editor, such as Notepad.

Change the following values:

seta sys_sysMB "1024" -> To where 1024 is the number of MB RAM you have (likely to be 4096)

While you're on, change:

seta r_multithreaded_device "0" -> Change the 0 to a 1 unless you have a single core CPU (highly unlikely)

Also, change the value:

seta r_multiGpu "1" -> Change the 1 to a 0 unless you're running SLi or Crossfire.

With that, the game becomes playable.

If i run with Xfire then game comes to a halt so i run game with one card and so much better 50-91 fps "game is caped"
Also another thing that made it run very well for me was to change resolution to 1920 X 1080 my monitor is 1920 X 1200 dam these Xbox ports.
Also i done all those config tricks bar the memory one so i will have a go at that thanks.
