After a drinks spillage, I think my XFX 1250W is dead.

With nothing hooked up to it but the mains. I hotwire the green wire to an earth wire and I hear the relay click and the fan starts for a split second before turning off again.

I can keep doing this all day.

Is this totally screwed?
Can I fix it?
This is an expensive PSU so can I sell it like it is?

You should be able to get a warranty replacement if it's still covered. I dont think you can sell it like this.

Warranty has been voided since I got it 2nd hand + I removed the cover.

I didn't initially suspect the PSU because I kept getting a CPU_LED light on the mobo and there was power to the mobo at all time. I am guessing just the 5v rail. So it wasn't long before I kept trying to make it work with a different mobo.

What you could do is take it to an electrical repair place, i'm sure they could fix it. TV repair shops etc can fix power supply issues in other devices and replace the damaged components, or if you are handy with a soldering iron and a multimeter you could fix it yourself but I don't advise this if you have no electronic skills. Most of these electrical small repair shops will repair anything, just get a quote first for the repair.

You can open it up and see if there are any clear fuses that have blown too, maybe each rail has a quick blow fuse, they are sometimes hidden in thermal shrink wrap, so you may need to cut off the shrink wrap to see if it is a fuse under it.

I originally tried a different PSU but that didn't work either so I thought mobo. Got a new mobo and it still didn't work which was when I tried the hot wire trick and found out the PSU was dead.

My case is a gaming case with hole in the top and the PSU intake fan sits directly below this so pretty easy to spill something on top.

Ok, it turns out the CPU is dead. The other PSU I tested does the same thing but this is down to the CPU confusing the mobo into not booting up.

In all of this I have had to buy a new mobo, PSU and CPU! Not sure what to do with the old mobo. Clean the cpu socket with alcohol and test somehow? Don't want to fry another £170 processor.
