XFX 4870X2 Squeals Like A Pig...

mine does it mainly when loading games for some reason.

Can be fairly loud but i usually play with a headset so dont hear it.

Personal preference i spose

I thought that too and *********** havent mentioned any restocking fee with the PSU I'm taking back also.

mine HD4870 was COMPLETELY SILENT!
even on crysis, bencharks silent!

GTX260 was sqyealing very noisy I RMA'D it!
now having GTX280, it does squealing noice, but not loud

Good to know there is cards out there that are silent which proves they're assembled better than the one I have or have better quality parts. Thanks for the info. Keep it coming - whose cards are squealing? :)

Yes you're right, it does boil down to personal preference. For me it is incredibly annoying and I just can't relax when I'm sat at the computer. My ears must be highly tuned even though my wife can clearly hear it which is a first for her as she's normally the first one to say 'I can't hear note'.

Just RMAed by 260 maxcore as it was very loud. To the point where I was unable to use the PC at night as I had to have the sound up loud to overcome the squealing from the card. Waiting for a replacement from BFG.

Will update with the outcome.

Yeah looks like it's inevitable. Didn't get my bits till last Friday so looks like I'll return it under DSR. It's mega loud. Feels like I've got tinnitus when the PC is on. :(

Send it back if you do not like it, i ccan understand about having a noise that you do not like kicking off..................oh one other thing did you hear the sound "You sure got a pretty mouth" :D
 
I get it as well on my card, only noticable on menu's of games or when running stupid stress tests (CSS stress test anyone!?!)

Once in game it goes away as running at more realistic FPS. Not had it on documents and scrolling though

i was worried like you about mine however mine doesnt make the most noise under mega stress (like benchmarking or crysis) it does it when loading games it is very loud and annoying yes but it goes away when actually playing.

I didn't notice it when i first got the card as it was in a Mountain Mods U2 UFO with 3 water loops and nine 120mm fans

I moved to my lian-li A77 with a single loop and silent fans and i noticed it. The card works fine so i chose to live with it.
 
My 4870 used to squeal but after about a week it disappeared. My friend's gtx 280 was squealing so bad that he ended up selling it.
 
Can be a PSU thing as well i do remember peeps changing to a bit more powerful psu and its solved it (less overall stain i would think) , i remember my 8800ultra did this at first then over time it seemed to go away , my GTX280 is the same but when your gaming you can hear it and probably go away over time as well
