So I sent this card away about a month ago for an RMA. The issue I was getting was my pc refused to boot with the card in. Originally I thought it was because I did not have enough power for my system, to which I bought my 1000W OCZ Gold. In the time that the card was away, I've been using a friends 480GTX without any issues at all.

Today I just got the card back, and somehow it still has the EXACT same issue that I sent it away for!

Plugging it into my system, connecting it up. Even reset the CMOS. Press the power button, everything goes through the motions normally. Motherboard then gets Orange LEDs (which I can only presume is bad) all over the place and then the system shuts down and tries all over again.

Reseated the 480GTX again and bam, first time boots up and not a single issue.

Any ideas on what to do with this 5870?

have u tryed it in a diff pci slot and did you delete all the nvidia drivers ?

PCI-E slot ;)

And I can't see error/warning lights on the motherboard having anything to do with drivers. It sounds like a hardware issue.

Trying it in another PCI-E slot is a good idea and trying the card in another PC would be even better.

Edit

I see you've tried the above.

Make sure your PCI-E slots are free from dust, dirt and debris. Perhaps there something affecting the HD 5870 that isn't affecting the GTX 480.

If it's producing a fault in 2 different PC's, that otherwise work fine, then that would suggest it's faulty.

It was doing this before the RMA, which is why I sent it away. Looks like I just got sent the same thing back, because nothing seems to be working again.
