Hi all,

I obtained a 5870 a couple of months ago, and with the PSU I had at the time it wasn't good enough. My computer simply wasn't booting ect. So I bought a new 1000W OCZ Gold, and the exact same issues that I had on my old PSU I have on this new one.

This has led me to believe that my 5870 is infact broken in some way.

The question is, is there anything that I can do about it to fix it?

Right.

1. A 1000W PSU or a 5870 is just a waste of power, money and your electric bill. For ONE GPU around the power of the 5870 I would go for a 650W PSU. 1000W is way too much!

2. If the card is not booting from 2 different PSU's then it has to be a problem with the card.

3. There isn't really anything you can do if a card is dead.

Sorry Dude

'it managed to hold at least 90% efficiency at all times, sometimes going as high as 93% showing that this unit is certainly worthy of its title.'

A 650w would have sufficed but as the 1000w is more efficient at 40% load than a 650w it will cost you less on your electric bill, also it will run cooler and run quieter.

If you can get into the bios, try locking your pci-e lane to 101MHz, if that doesn't work, try it in another PC.

Rma it.

It was more for getting a decent PSU for the years to come and have something that I know will last.

Rma it.

I have tried the PCI-e lane and the problem seemed to get worse at 101MHz.

I am in the process of RMA'ing it, but XFX are pretty horrible with their service right now.

Don't get ratty with them, it'll only get worse.

Try and be as pleasant as you can as people are more inclined to be much more helpful.

Iv'e not had to rma to XFX before, but they gave me loads of help with a mb issue.

Can you not drop it into another rig to rule out any other possible cause like a faulty pci-e lane?

Come to think of it, have you tried the card in the second pci-e slot at all to rule out the above?

I've been through about 2 - 3 different LGA775 boards, then I bought the setup that's in my sig. So either I have incredible bad luck, or the card is just really gone.
