the 6970 has a better min framerate compaired to 5870's in crossfire , i know i went from crossfired 5870's to the 6970 . but then again i was going to go crossfired 6970's at the time , also depends on the rest of your system

You'd have to be crazy to ask for a 5870 instead when got offered a 6970. Also, benchmark don't mean everything, as it doesn't tell about smoothness of the actual gaming experience or if there are any shuttering or poor Crossfire scaling issues for some games. Point is 6970 2GB is more than good enough for 1920 res...Crossfire 5870 might have higher frame rate, but does it actually feel and smoother than the 6970 2GB gaming at 1920 res? Most likely not...if anything the 6970 2GB would provide smoother experience due to no shuttering concern with multi-GPU.

I'm explaing the options to the OP.

It's up to them to decide whether to:

a) ask for another 5870 or

b) sell the 6970 and buy a 5870 and hopefully be a few quid in pocket or

c) use the 6970 and sell their other 5870

Personally I've used 2 Crossfire setups without issue so I'd regard a 6970 as an overall downgrade on 2x5870's. That's my personal oponion from my personal experience.

I'm sure your comments are also based on personal experience of Crossfire.

I'm sorry, but OCUK handled this extremely well.
OP's complaining about an upgrade? How are THEY meant to know you've got a second 5870?

You could sell the 6970 for 160 in an instant and then buy a brand new 5870.

Hell, I'd take it off your hands for 160.

I bought two of them from Overclockers in the same order - as well as the rest of my gaming computer. It would strongly insinuate that I am going to use them together.

I'm not complaining at all I understand and appreciate that it is a good deal (although not initially:)) - just a bit annoyed the fact that they didn't contact me prior to shipping the graphics card. Seems a bit ignorant to me.

So what are you going to do?

Don't really have much of a choice - take the 6970 - and as mentioned above troubleshoot the issues that I am having with my 5870.

If you're lucky you can RMA that one as well for another 6970

Seriously, if you do have to RMA it remind them that they replaced the last one with a 6970.

Sell 6970 for a 5870 if it's such a problem..
How'd you even get dressed in the morning if you're having an issue with this?

If you offered your 6970 to someone with a 5870, they'd take it, no doubt about it..
