Looking at the XFX Geforce 7900GS AGP card that is currently on offer on OCUK as a possible upgrade for my system.

Does anybody have any advice for me on this card ??

I've heard that some people have had issues with Geforce 7900 based cards before and also XFX cards in general so wondered what you people thought of this as an upgrade.

I saw on OCUK that they have the Radeon X1950 Pro's from HIS and Sapphire for similar money but I really wanted to stick to Nvidia if I can.

Any help welcomed.

Been looking at posts on various web sites and many of them are slating the XFX AGP 79xx series so I'm thinking that it's a no-go for me.

Started looking at either the Sapphire or HIS X1950 Pro on OCUK. Has anybody got any advice on these cards ? ?

I have read stories about the early Sapphires and problems with temperatures etc. and being picky with PSU's... Is this right ? ?

I have just replaced by PSU with an Antec Earthwatts 500w PSU. Looking at the spec for this it has 2x +12v rails with 17a each. Would this be OK for an X1950pro ? ?

that 7900 is a complete waste of money. I'd say you have 3 options:

  • Get an x1950pro if you can find one at a good price
  • Get the soon to be released 3850pro
  • Start to build a new PC that uses PCI-e

I've got the XFX 7900GS AGP and would have to agree with the comments above except that I got mine for £60 (new as well). For that price I can't grumble. No problems or issues with the card at all so far.

I'd put the money towards a PCI-e system personally, until you make the switch, you're going to be paying the premium on AGP. What's the rest of your specs?
