XFX 7950 VOLTAGE LOCK

Trixx, it unlocks the voltage. :)

I thought AB would have done it by now but it looks unlikely to happen as it would be there by now I imagine.:(

If it's the cheap DD, then that's why.

Mine does 1100/1400MHz stable with a little voltage, regardless how much voltage goes in, the core won't go past a not too stable 1150, it's not a temp issue on the core sitting under an AC Extreme, before it topped out@1GHz using stock DD cooler.

The memory-forget about it:(, although memory voltage adjustment is rumoured to be coming in the next Trixx update(if it works on the DD), so it might change things a little.

Cheap vrms/flawed cooler(zero air vrm cooling) on the DD holding it back imo, but can't complain tbph, it's way, way cheaper than the rest of the 7950's, +100Mhz for up to £85 extra, I'll just be happy with what I got.

Hi Tommy, yes its the DD one. Couldnt find the black edition anywhere however i heard that its no different other than a bios change.

I can get 1050 and 1350 with no voltage uplift. Its not too loud either.
I cant get up to 1150 on the core at all, anything past 1050 just crashes it.

Im not worried about the memory voltage, that's a little too technical for me.

its not as good as what my Sapphire was at clocking but still.

Although my volts are not locked, Reference black edition. I do hit that same wall. Anything over 1150 on the clock. I get artifacts, No matter what volts I put into it. Its not like the temps are holding me back either.

Although my memory clocks pretty well. 1600 so far.

You got the proper original one, much better parts/proper good vrms shankly.:D

We got the cheap builds with the poor vrms, probably an undisclosed V2 as such, not complaining as above, just trying to help out nuzik.

@ Digitalprime, get a hold of GPUz/HWinfo and check your vrm temps, you can log them easier on GPUz, that's the deciding factor in the 79 series overclocking in my experience with the 79's.

When overclocked, stability starts to go off when the vrms start heating up.

Yeh I use GPUz, They never go over 75ish. This is benching and gaming. Either way, they don't really heat up and thats at the 1600 clock.

2 runs on heaven4.0 - 59c for VRM 1. 47c for vrm2

my temps dont go up over 73 so that should be fine. Its not overly loud either. Just a little miffed that its not doing what advertised at least.
Do XFX do their own clocking software as i cant find it on their quite frankly ridiculous site.

@dp,

Can you get the vrms cooler ie bump the cooler to 100% to take the heat away quicker from the vrms?

That's when stability started to become an issue, it was the vrms causing it as I could keep the core easily under 60c.

I realise 100% is terribly noisy, but it would let you know if it's a heat issue or that's just your lot.

Unless your not bothered of course and happy with what you get.:D

how did you keep at temps of around 60! thats crazy cool

mine is running at 60 idle.... thats not right now is it

ive turned the fan up to 100 to bring the temps down.

Before I overclock my max temps where about 60c on stock clocks.

That is defo not correct, is your core and memory dropping down? Idle should read 300/150 and 20% fan

It's fine, the DD cooler is on a low rpm setting, it's stock fan profile is aimed at low noise nuzik.

XFX don't do oc software.

The AC Extreme keeps temps in check.:)

Right, Just upped the memory to 1700. The volts are left alone

2 runs in heaven4.0

VRM1 62c
VRM2 49c

Its a reference cooler and its at 70% - Core 1150, Temp 63c Max.

Ill give it another 2 runs with the fan at 100%.

The temps didnt move even with the fan at 100% from 70%.
