** XFX 7970 PRICE DROP: THIS WEEKEND ONLY!! **

Any chance we can see OCed CF 7970 or 7950 benched on an SB board? It will be nice to compare what its like for the new cards with SB's PCI-E 2.0 x8/x8 does as opposed to existing benches with SB-E PCI-E 3.0 x16/16

How quiet are these cards on the desktop? Getting seriously cheesed off with graphics cards being the loudest thing in my PC....

edit: Damn they're not the Double Dissapation ones

watercool it? :D

They're pretty quiet, most modern cards are at idle.

Maybe wait fro something with a custom cooler to come out?

These cards are not selling at these prices....competitors have them at 419.99 with plenty in stock...not overclocked versions....

Surely if these were flying off the shelves there would be no stock anywhere but this is not the case...unless i've missed something :p

That's one of the shortfalls.. sadly they are not quiet

One card at idle is practically silent.

One card under load is quiet unless your case cooling is terrible.

Two cards under load are audible.

Three cards under load is rather noticable.

I've got a machine on my desk next to me priming with three in, I can't hear the cards at all, all I can hear is the watercooling pump as the CPU is loaded.

Where exactly did I say you where misleading anyone? Also, what part of the customer service handbook does it say to roll your eyes sarcastically at customers? Awesome work.

Stating here that you're making amazing reductions when your increasing prices on a virtually identical product isn't going to win you any fans. You giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other. I don't care if stuff is in stock or not, increasing prices is increasing prices. You're taking advantage of people that want a product now, if you're alright with that then it speaks volumes. I'm not criticising you as such, just pointing out that it doesn't look so good from a customers point of view. It's up to you whether you choose to take that on board or not.

If you rolleyes me, your going to get it back rather simple, if you don't like it then don't dish it out, simples. :)

I made it clear in a previous post that the cost of the OcUK cards were at a cost where we'd be barely covering cost, however those who pre-ordered will have their orders honored and shipped out.

We did our best to get stock at a right price, but with supply still on constraint with manufacturers as they have greater demand than supply, no one is willing to cut deals yet on 7970 series, though I do predict as February progresses, this will change.

My ideal target is to try and get too £399 Inc. VAT but with current costings it is not possible and will require some movement from AMD to make it possible.

Fact is our competitors can list at £419.99, they can even sell 1or2 pieces at £419.99, but no one will sustain it on volume. Here at OcUK we are shifting volume and this is why pricing has increased.

OcUK gets more stock than any other etailor, we know this and so do our competitors, its probably why they hate it when we post up large pyramids of cards pre-launch because we have the stock to do so with. :)
Were here to stick around, that means making a profit and aiming to sell 1000's of cards, not just a few here and there at a cut down price.

You are coming across as a whiny little girl my friend.

Just so you know, you are well within your rights to buy cheaper elsewhere and OcUK are within their rights to charge what the hell they like, and to be frank if they are moving stock at their prices no-one gives a toss what you or I think we should be getting charged.

Stop being a self entitled **** and have a shop around.

Why are you cards quieter than every one else's ?

Reducing the prices before the 7950 launches is their best way to shift a few more before people all (mostly) want the 7950 intead :p

They are the same AMD reference designs!

I'd say maybe I am death then, but everyone here has also said the same, they are quiet at idle (near silent) and one card loaded is still quiet, its only two or more they make a noise.

Of course its possible to make one sound like a hoover, 100% fan speed manual, job done. :D

Ooooops haha!

But seriously I don't notice them at all and the system is on the desk level with my ears with three in with no side panel. All I can hear is the humm from the watercooling pump.

the cards are quiet.

I hate loud computers
I hate loud graphics cards
and I'm not the biggest fan of AMD

but the three 7970s that the yellow beetle driving boss of mine is running directly in front of my desk are unnoticeable apart from when a benchmark is running.

if I wanted a quiet high end gaming pc that wasn't going to be water-cooled [heresy, I know], then I would have a 7970 down as my first choice.

Ooooops haha!

stop badmouthing my products you!

And in taking a right swing back on yourself I give top marks!

29db idle... pretty much silent!

Am I surprised? No! Why? Because 29db even in a near silent room is essentially near silent.

As for load.. yes its loud however...

Does the fan ever hit 100% load when gaming? No! It doesn't..

Why? It doesn't get hot enough.

Until you have one then I must agree with kitch9 I am afraid.
