Heys guys as the title says Xfx 7970 but which one to get?
i game on a i-7 950 at res 1080p and currently have 2 x 5870 in xfire but the reason i want to change is the electric bill and noise levels but unsure of which to get its either

Xfx 7970 or the xfx 7970 Black edition :)

If iwas getting one of these stock cards I'd go for the ASUS as I've read they have a really good BIOS for overclocking, then OC it to past the XFX Black levels.

Isn't the XFX Black just the standard reference 7970 with a pre-applied OC? No fancy cooling?

yes, it is.

If i was to buy a reference card, i'd get MSI or Gigabyte as they have the best CS

i dont have much problems with cooling,i have the Coolermaster Haf which did fine before i brought a 2 nd 5870,with the mobo i have the gpu's are SO close together the top generates to much heat

i'm not saying you do, but a card with a better cooler can be pushed further when overclocking whilst still staying quiet

Yeah i hear you :) so the Msi is the better option then?

Not the once currently out. MSI and Gigabyte have the best CS out of the cards out at the moment.

However, both will be releasing the 7970 with custom coolers which will be better. it takes maybe a month for them to come out but IMO, it's worth the wait

EDIT, wrong thread. depends what black edition.

There are two Black editions, one looks standard, the other has the DD custom cooler.

There is also a DD (double dissipation) version with the same style custom cooler but slower stock clock speeds.
