I received the XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme 768MB today and went to install it but i've immediately been hit with an issue.

I'm using the Hiper Type R 580W Modular PSU but it only has one 6pin PCI-E power lead whereas the 8800 GTX requires two of these to power it!!!

Has anyone any ideas how to get round this issue?

Sorry, if this sort of issue has been posted before but i'm knacked off not being able to use my new graphics card.

Thanks

I would recommend getting a new PSU, the Hiper 580W sucks. Mine exploded last week, and it set off the fire alarm which automatically dialled through to the local fire station! Two fire engines turned up at 1 in the morning! Let's say that all 75 other residents in the same building were not that pleased :P

Tbh just ditch that PSU for a start, the Hiper PSU's are awfully unreliable, 5 minutes of searching the forums will tell you that. There is some sort of adapter you can buy that will turn one of the molex into a 6 pin but you'll probably experience problems with it no doubt because of the quality of the PSU.

Molex to 6 pin wont work. Molex can't deliver enough power for the 8800GTX. New PSU.

Tried it with mine (clocked). And they throttled down.

The adaptor has two molex into one six pin, so even though the adaptor is only pulling half the load, as the other six pin is direct from the PSU, two molex's are not enough

Or is it just PSU related as the Type R only has 30A across the two rails (but the guy on the thread I linked to was using a Seasonic 430W which only has 29A across the two rails and that worked OK with the adaptor)

Thanks for the replies, i've had my Hiper PSU for a good while now without any problems and i'm well aware of its associated problems - I'm tempted to go and buy an adaptor for the time being.

My spec is:

- DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D

- AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego

- Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4000PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3

- Hiper Type R 580W

- Hazro 24"

So, the only thing that will look to pull the most power is the 8800GTX.

I will eventually change my PSU but i think only when i do a complete overhaul.
