XFX back on

yes i get the whole supply and demand thing, and the leg lifting that goes with it, but my point is what is so special about this card over the other <£200 oc editions, that warrants an extra £35. Good luck to the numpty heads who pay that.

Cherry picked cores maybe?. The same as EVGA?.

Although I've seen Fornowagian (sorry if I got it wrong) with some aftermarket cooler on a stock or near stock edition and he's well past the clockspeeds of even the superclocked EVGA cards. Maybe the premium isn't really needed but then you have to hope for a good overclocking board as I don't think they will all be as generous as Fornowagians GT.

Hmm weird, My MX700 Mouse and KB kit started to act up, they sent a newer MX Kit to me in 3 days time (as out of UK layout took longer), all they asked was for serials of Mouse/KB/Receiver and that I cut of the usb/power plug at end of the Cable and send it to .NL.

I sold the new Kit as new and bought a MX3000 laser kit at launch as it used the MX1000 Mouse.

My G15s media keys sank into the keyboard so I couldnt use them, RMAd it, got a new one sent out ASAP, but the same things happened, been waiting nearly 2 weeks now for them to reply past "I've passed it on to my supervisor, expect a reply in 2/3 days"

HI there

OcUK will be dealing with the RMA's soley for the 2yr warranty period XFX offers.

We don't want our customers to have to deal with propella heads who generally just reject product or upset the customer.

As such any customer who purchases from OcUK will deal with OcUK for RMA services who will endeavour to turn the order around within 7 days.

We have agreed RMA support package that allows us to turn any faulty XFX product around in a very quick period of time.
I wouldn't have any qualms now about buying XFX again, knowing I was going to get great after sales service and not have to deal with XFX direct.

I had an XFX 6600GT that was never right from day 1, but it took over 2 months for it to get sorted dealing with XFX direct.

Hi there

I too wondered that when setting up this card. The other overclocked cards are just better value, simple as that. The Zotac AMP is quicker and cheaper, therefor the better buy. The BFG OC2 are as quick, better warranty and much cheaper and as such the one too buy.

I suspect XFX will revise the pricing considering that other partners have faster product for less money.

Heads up. That is very informative and an honest assessment Gibbo. Nice one:)

You would hope they were cherry picked.

Interestingly enough people with EVGA SCC GT's all seem to get 760/770 and 2100+ on memory on stock cooling (well 4 people who posted on another forum) which would lead you down the route that they are certainly the best of the best GT cards.

My BFG OC bombs out above 720 and the memory crashes the computer past 1950 and won't run 3dmark06 over 1900.:(

So I would say as always it is pot luck but certainly you are not guaranteed a normal card will hit 700/2000 and many appear not to so for once a cherry picked pre-oc card may be worth the money.

WP ocuk for the warranty deal, awesome work, it's the only rason i have stopped buying xfx products and moved to BFG/EVGA.

all the XFX card's i've had in the past have ALWAYS overclocked better then other manufacturers equivelant cards, and that was awesome... i had the fastest air cooler 76gt iirc, 900/2000 for a 3d mark run in the end, 12k on 3dmark05 for a SINGLE 76gt was damned awesome... Sadly though, xfx still have one of the biggest failure rates of graphics cards...

Apparently the 625MHz XFX ALPHA DOG 8800GT has a non-reference single slot cooler with larger blower and black pcb. Looks like its USA only :(

the XFX version of the GeForce® 8800 GT features a unique thermal fansink design that allows a punch up in its core clock from the industry standard 600 MHz to 625 MHz and keeps it up to 8 degrees cooler in 3D applications.

Additional technical improvements include an enhanced fan speed and improved air flow, ensuring that this 8800 GT is cooler than its competitors while still maintaining its sleek, single slot design.

Never had any issues with XFX cards.

"Sadly though, xfx still have one of the biggest failure rates of graphics cards" A link would be good? Any proof?

A premium worth paying then :D. These GT's have done really well since the release. I want one for a performance leap but ol' saint nick is giving me the evil eye while rubbing his fingers saying "where's my money ". After the year for me.

Your card isn't far off from the clocks you are getting but no matter what it will be slightly frustrating to see 750+Mhz cores on cherry GT's, as well as better shader and memory speeds. Or is your shader clock fine as I haven't seen you mention that?.

I hope you sort out the troubles you are having with your GT. I don't know if it's affecting your game performances but your 3dmark score could do with a boost. Contemplating a brand new, formatted hard drive to stick XP on by any chance? :D.

Well now got my card to 742/1756/952

The shaders were stopping the core going past 720 so I have bad shaders and bad memory for overclocking on my card.

now got 32mark06 to 10453 and looking online comparison that seems right. A 730 (presume linked shaders) 1950 gt with a slightly fast AMD cpu got 10700 and many GT/AMD systems around my score.

Still disappointed it's only a 4% increase over my 8800 GTS 320Mb. Going to do some game testing now to see if games have only increased by 4% as well.

If so i will be gutted as I might as well have kept my old GTS.:(

If you have a look on the Evga forum you will see a post regarding 8800gt Scc and how the memory seems to be overheating causing freezes and weird scrambled screens. Solution seems to be underclocking ram to stock 900(1800) and some are talking about faulty memory and Rma's. Makes you wonder if these cards are cherrypicked !

Wouldn't surpise me at all. The memory doesnt run that hot with an aftermarket cooler <40C at 2200MHz on mine. With the stock HSF you may find that if you modify the bios voltage or increase core/shader clocks heat soaks back into the ram and reduces the headroom.
