Hi.

I've just changed from an 8800GTX to an XFX GTX 280 XT. Unfortunately I'm getting crashes to desktop in far cry 2 and 3dmark vantage. The only way i can stop this from happening is to underclock the card to stock speeds. It's not as if the XT clocks are even that high though @ 640/1400/2400.

I'm using 181.22 drivers and i've also tried rolling the drivers back to 180's and 178's but no joy. Temperatures on the GPU never exceed 78 and my case cooling is very good.

Never had these problems with the 8800.

do you think i've got a faulty card? would you send it back?

The fact that you are able to roll back the driver tells me that you don't remove your old drivers first and then so a clean install of the newer drivers.

Do this and see if it helps.

Every time i change drivers i uninstall, restart in safe mode, use driver sweeper, reboot, install new drivers.

Did you not recently RMA an XFX overclocked card? In which case I really would get shot under DSA rather than fall foul of their current warranty arrangement and get an alternative brand with better support.

Sorry, what does DSA stand for? Yeah, i had a gtx 260 black which had even more problems and got a refund. I wish i'd got a stock card and overclocked it myself now really.

Yeah, i'm prime stable on OC.

****.com say it may take up to 20 days to turn around my RMA and there is a risk they wont recreate my issue. I AM VERY WORRIED.

It's a possiblity, they have to protect themselves too. If they don't find anything, give them a call, usually if they're happy to listen it's a good sign they're a professional outfit, who value their customers.

Best of luck, my XFX 260 is back with an OCUK competitor and they are quoting me the same 15-20 days turn around time on RMA's as they first test them then send them back to XFX for further testing. Bit of a farce to be honest, and if I understand the sale of goods act correctly the contract is with the vendor, not the manufacturer so I dont see how they can legally expect me and you to wait for XFX to test the card once the vendor themselves has found it to be faulty? MIght be worth you using either the DSA or SoGA depending upon how long you have had the card.

I dont think XFX can actually produce an overclocked card which runs stably. Annoyingly mine started to act up 4 weeks after installing it.
