XFX Suck

OP have you tried to remove the heatsink and reapply thermal paste and make sure the heatsink isn't clogged up with dust? You may not have to send it back afterall.

But still can't see how it can overheat that quickly though.

Agreed,
Make sure the fan is spinning properly, and if it is check that the heatsink is attached properly and replace the thermal paste if necessary.

posted this in another thread but il post it here aswell.

BFG are pretty good ...i had problems with a 7800gt i had bought about 18months ago...it was running over 100c but not always crashing but because cards exhaust was blowing such hot air over the northbridge it caused all kinds of problems.
well i sent it in on thursday/friday and now on wednesday i have a brand new 7800gt back.
it doesnt make up for the 18 months of hell i had with the card but im more than happy as newer card is running much smoother at only half the temps.
they didnt have to exchange it but they did which was nice of them.

i always had to turn the detail down on the other card to lower work load(keep temps down).

Personally for nvidia stuff ive always stuck to leadtek because ive never had a single problem with any of their cards from the nvidia range in nearly 8 years of using them. Best make ive used for ATI stuff is MSI suprisingly as I've also had few problems with the cards ive bought (all top range stuff) and had 1 dead X800XT which they RMA'd and got a perfect replacement 4 days later.

Due to having consistantly good products I'll always stick to those brands even if they are considerably more expensive or even slower than others lol

I only use XFX cards, all the others seem to blow up, are DOA or just don't work as advertised.

I had to get 4 Asus 6600GT's and not one of them worked, so I bought 2 XFX 7600GT's and they worked perfectly, then I though I'd get a Palit 7900GS which worked fine, so I thought "let's get another one" and it just didn't work at all, despite other people saying it should work and there's nothing wrong with them, 1 month later and the second card just stops working, then the first one just constantly locked up the PC, and eventually wouldn't even POST, so I replaced them with a XFX 7800GS AGP (other PC) and it hasn't even missed a beat last I heard.

Now I have an XFX 8800GTX and it runs superbly and I've not had one graphic related malfunction since.

i must ave been lucky with xfx, ive heard theyre aftersales service is rubbish, i bought 2 7900gt extremes quite a while ago and both are still working in my brothers rig, as for leadtek, 2 6800gt's in sli, one failed one day , 2 days later 2nd card failed as well, tend to stick with proven manufacturers theese days like bfg or evga

My first 6800NU that I had was an XFX and had the dodgy temp sensor throttling problem, had to be replaced by OCUK. I won't buy an XFX product again.

Dave

I had an XFX 8800gts 640mb a while back which I sold on MM. Worked perfectly, BUT, I have heard some 'orrid things about their aftersales service.

so finally got a reply from xfx after i sent in the pics, it is one of their cards missing the serial sticker they say.

So as the pc is freezing it sounds like the cards overheating so they tell me to underclock it. Now i paid for the xxx overclocked version so why should i now underclock it. Also i have tried it with a waterblock and not the std cooler so it was a lot cooler on that than their cooler and it still froze.
