Hi.

I am on old skool gamer that simply cannot get used to the console pads. I have done a bit of research and this seems to be highly recommended.

Now i would like to play the xbox through my pc monitor but that has no sound, i use headphones through my soundcard and also the monitor just has a dvi connection. The xbox 360 is a phat elite.

Can you advise me on what cables are needed for picture and sound and the best way to connect it.

There exist female RCA to female 3.5mm adapters that would allow you to use a pair of headphones, stereo or surround depending on the adapter, as your main speakers. Or, if your soundcard's microphone port doubles as a line-in input, you can use a female RCA to male 3.5mm adapter (one older 360 I have came packaged with one, but I do not know if it is a standard accessory) to run audio through your PC. Volume is then adjustable through the volume control panel or your OS' respective counterpart.

Audio and video are carried over the 360's HDMI connection if you prefer to use a screen that has integral speakers.

Would the purchase of a new monitor with an HDMI connection sort that..? I am looking into getting a new one anyway.

Even though my HDMI monitor has speakers and I can use them for the 360, they are so tinny and dire that it really isn't recommended..

Any old set of PC speakers with normal Phono L + R inputs will be fine with the 360, as people have mentioned, it's easy to get normal stereo phono outputs from the 360, and you'll appreciate the no doubt better sound quality (assuming reasonable PC speakers).

I use a small 5.1 system, the PC/PS3/360 are all hooked up to this via optical/coaxial connections (The 360 has optical out on many of it's AV leads), so I can have 5.1 from all sources, this seems to work out a bit better for me!

I have to be honest, my pc is in the bedroom and i don't like to use speakers, the sound tends to travel at night when everyone is trying to sleep. I solely use headphones into the back of the soundcard on the pc.

What is the best way to connect it all up..?

Would this, http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003VD56...de=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B003VD56JS

then into the line in on my soundcard do the trick..? Would that then leave me space to plug my headphones directly into the soundcard and get audio?. If so how do i chanel the sound through the headphones, do i go onto the sound settings in windows then just change to the port it's plugged into..?

So the title of the thread doesn't really have anything to do with the actual question? :D :p

Ha Ha well it does because of getting this i have to now hook the xbox upto my pc.., playing through my plasma isn't an option....:)

Can you help anyway..?

All advice is welcome...

That looks fine to me!

Can't help sorry, pointless post by me but I did originally come in to talk about keyboard and mouse on a console!! :( :( :p

I'd say you suck at adapting!

:p

Honestly, how long did you give it before thinking "Damn, I suck with a pad, and cannot possibly cope without playing with a mouse and keyboard?"

I would be interested in having a 1v1 match with you on COD to see much of a difference it makes to how you play.

Ohhhhh about 3 years on and off...lol. I have been trying for ages and just can't seem to grasp it. I had all but given up on consoles until a member of a site i visited pointed me in the direction of the xim3....

Sure i'll be ordering it within the next few weeks and when it's all connected i'll give you a game. I doubt if i would be much competition but who knows :)
