Does anyone know if there's a way to retap a oil drain plug, I think when tightening it the thread might have been damaged, the bolt is in but I think it's damaged.

Thanks

If its in and not leaking what makes you think it is damaged?

A quick google seems its an m14x1.5 thread, so you will need an M14x1.5P Tap and a Tap wrench but im assuming and this is only an assumption that the oil tank would be aluminium and the bolt steel so if anything is damaged it would be the thread in the oil tank and would need heli-coiling or similar like mentioned above.

The bolt tightens then spins again but not as tight as it should be. Just saw a video of a guy doing a fix on a hayabusa and looks like it can be done by hand with a heli-coil so will probably look into that.

A tap can be used to clean up lightly damaged threads, but if they are already stripped then re-tapping to the same size them won't do anything. You need to fit a thread insert, either a helicoil type, or (better for sump threads) is a Timesert thread insert.

I took it into a local garage and they re-tapped it and fitted a larger bolt and only cost me £30 so now happy again, might give it a clean this weekend to celebrate :)
