Well... 2010, time for a change. Priorities needed to shift from "the car" to clearing my debts, changing my job and mixing things up a bit.

The XKR had started to cost me too much money in repairs (average £5k a year), £400 a month fuel and for some reason ins has gone up this year despite no changes to £1200. MOT was due in 4 weeks, tax was due at the end of the month but the straw which broke the camels back was a random warning about high gearbox temp when the car was ice cold - random electrical fault. The beginning of the end perhaps.

So, as per my opinions in Fox's X type thread - i wasnt going to get one of those. I have had an XJ and although i loved it, i couldnt afford to buy one new enough to avoid the same issues i had with the XK so that left.....

JAGUAR S TYPE 2.7 TWIN TURBO DIESEL SE AUTO

I didn't know what to expect when i took it out, was amazed at how smooth the gear changes were, how good the brakes were, how light the steering was and well - everything was great. Yes, it's ugly as sin and having gone from the XKR doesnt help but i done the deal and now its sat on my drive.

Flame suit on.

any interior shots?

have you found much differen in the comfort side of things?

Added interior shot.

Yeah, its actually better in the S type. Seats are deeper, ride is softer. Being 5 1/2 years newer everything has a better feel to it. Of course, the performance and drive of the XKR is in a different league but compared to the S type, the brakes felt tired, the leather hard.

Drove one of those once, it was a 2.7 twin turbo diesel in XS trim with some sort of huge bodykit on it.

It wasn't bad but... I kinda thought its the car you buy if you really hate BMW's and Mercs. It's a poor mans XJ in many ways.. ;)
