Like the look of both the z5500's(has Oomph!) and z5450's(wireless) myself :D
My mate went for the Z5450's first, both rear speakers need plugging into the wall AND the subwoofer, thats 3 power plugs! His subwoofer was also DOA resulting in no sound and a severe burn on the hotspot underneath.

The z5500's volume/plug-in unit looks a LOT better and classier, but it does carry less inputs.

Personally, after seeing both in the flesh I'd say the z5500's are the ones to go for, they are also considerably more powerful.

As for your speakers, the reason I didn't get the external box was because with my expensive soundcard (SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro [£200!]) I got the seperate audio box :). But yes, I agree, the speakers are definitely underwhelming.

Just read wifi messes about with the rear speakers on the z5450's so I'd most likely would get the z5500. If i could sell my GD580's :p

Paid £150 for them comming upto 2 years ago now. Be lucky to get £50 for them on MM I reckon. :(

Same, I've tried passing them onto some friends without much luck :(. Cost me over £100, but as you said, £50 would be lucky and then there is the shipping cost which would be around £15 with parcelforce.
