When i went into my local model shop (models in motion) the other day I overheard someone talking about xmod cars, they're little electric 1/28 scale moddable cars. Anyone got one as i think i may get one or two and have a play around with them. Are they actually any good?

Also i'm thinking of getting another nitro car soon and im really stuck on what to get, at the moment i have a schumacher xtr (superfast stadium truck) and want to get something different, problem is I dont know whether to get a road car, monster truck or a buggy. At the moment im erring towards the monster truck (probably a savage x) as i dont really have anywhere to play with a road car and buggys look like they will be to similar to the car i already have (unless your talking about the hpi baja ;) but thats a bit out of my price range lol).

So what should i get? :)

You should get a big stick much cheaper and nearly as fun.

Ok i dont really want to ak this but... "whats a big stick"? Just incase it isn't a piece of old wood. :o

Anywho...

Yeah they do look quite interesting, the bloke in the shop said they were damn fast, i saw some racing on the video showing in the shop and they looked good. Would make a change from my nitro which I spend more time fiddling with than using. :( :p

well it is slightly a piece of wood, but with the cunning implication of stickers and a spolier its a lot more fun than a remote control car (sorry) :p

I've got two Nitro Radio Controlled cars.

A Jato - which is a 2 WD high speed stadium truck (capable of 55 MPH) and a Revo - 4 WD Monster truck.

Both cars are absolute beasts and both have two speed transmissions.

The Revo, being bigger, heavier and four wheel drive will max out at 40 MPH, but is much easier to drive due to higher ground clearance, and the added bonus of having better handling due to being 4x4.

Depends what your doing really.
For hard bashing (jumps, driving it like you stole it etc) you cant get better than a Savage!
I have the Savvy X myself and I love it, tough as old boots and damn speedy now I`ve put a new engine in it.

Bit of an old pic as Ive added several news bits (most notably new wheels & tyres, 3 speed, duel disk brakes and an STS .28):

Lurve it :D

If your more of a racer though, your better off with a buggy such as a Hyper 7 or 8.

TMAXX?! Those things are awful.

I wouldn't say that the T-maxx is awful.

I used to own one and it was tough and fast. Only ever broke one part on it after I crashed it into a telephone pole. Even then it was only a hair-line crack and I replaced it before it got any worse. I could still drive the truck perfectly well.

Don't get me wrong, the MaXX isn't as refined as something like a Savage SS, -X or Revo, but then again you can't really expect it to be, taking into account that it was designed over four years earlier.

So there is a large difference between the two types, i'm wondering about the monster truck because of the ground clearence and its more all terrain nature. I did wonder about the revo but was told its more of a racing one as opposed to a bashing one (and the price difference) and so i think a savage is the way to go. The guys at models in motion seem to agree (they sell all the major monster trucks so im inclined to believe them) as well.

I also agree with Munkyman! My xtr looks a state at the moment, damn mud and dust! ;)

The Revo is smaller, handles better and is more nippy, so yes more geared towards racing but it can be bashed pretty well.

The Savage is large, handles like a brick (easily made better but LCG TVP`s) and is generally slower with the standard engines (F4.1 engine your looking at 34mph max), but its been proven an extreamly tough basher time and time again. Theres also a HUGE amount of hop-ups for it as well.

Monster trucks are good because they are literally "Go-anywhere". However, if you're wanting to do loads of powerslides and do-nuts etc then a monster truckk isn't for you.

I used to own a road car, and it was excellent on car parks, but that was literally all it could handle.

Monster trucks can do jumping etc and go through pretty much any terrain you throw at them.

The main downside of monster trucks is the high centre of gravity and large suspension play which predisposes to them rolling over. This used to frequently happen to my T-maxx.

I have to say that the Revo is different in this respect. I haven't rolled it once yet, which is always a good start as I've only had it a few weeks.

Indeed, for them reasons alone MT's > *

I personally have a Savage Limited Edition which I shortly got after the release date.

It's tough, It's fast, It's a beast, It's fun and boy does dig dirt :D

I already have an xtr for the donuts, powerslides and speed (50-70mph) so the truck will be used for playing around on terrain that my xtr cant handle and to just play with the xtr (makes them sound like pets  ) although obviously im not expecting it to keep up. Are buggys that much different to a stadium truck in handling and driving or a bit pointless if you already have a truck?

Im still currently hoping (very unlikely :( ) my dad will come round to paying 50% towards a HPI Baja, if he does, stuff the monster truck i'm getting that! :p

I find road cars pretty boring although drifting can be fun, for a while only though. I've got a Savage 4.6 SS monster truck with various mods. Couple of pics below taken by TomWilko on these boards, he's got a website www.meangasoline.co.uk, go check it out if your in to motorsport, theres some great pics + some vids on there :)

Buggys are completely different to the trucks. They've got triple diffs and are geared more towards racing. They are generally faster than the trucks as well.

Have a look at www.maxbashing.com. They've got loads of info and the guys in the forums are very helpful.

Anyone konw the real differences between the standard and the evo models? lots of places say they are faster but not whether they are faster when the engines have been swapped out.

I recently got a Savage SE and as others have said its very durable .
Could be a bit faster but i only have the 25 (you can get the X with the 4.6)
I also bought a Havoc which although silly fast is made of cheese.. Only had 5 tanks through it and have broke £30 woth of bits and its not even run in :(

My mate just fitted a Lrp28 into his savage and it now wheelies in any gear and any speed but seems to like eating spur gears :P

If you were going to spend £400 ish on a Savvy x i would really recomend the Losi Lst2 .. Very quick out the box ..handles very well .. and from what i have seen nearly unbreakable .It also comes with decent 40mhz radio and everything you need to run it ...
