I just upgraded my mobo/cpu and ram to the following:

Motherboard: Asus Strix Z270G Gaming
CPU: I7 7700k
Ram: Corsair DDR4 LPX 3200mhz 16gb

Why is it in bios, when I manually set my ram to 3200mhz and restart, my CPU changes to 800mhz??

I have also tried setting the XMP profile which is also doing it!

Speedstep and all the speed/voltage management settings in bios are off.

The CPU STAYS at 800mhz when running a stress test

anyone got any ideas?? I have been on this for hours now

Does it behave normally with the bios reset to default settings?

It's normal for the CPU to idle around 800mhz but it should boost up to speed when you start doing stuff.

Have you tried HWmonitor to keep tabs on temps and cpu speed from within Windows?

Sorted it, It was a faulty Bios model

0906 is to be avoided on the Asus Strix Z270G Gaming, 0801 works fine

Does asus not test these things before releasing them

I've been having exactly the same issue with the same mobo and couldn't understand why. Will downgrade from 0906 when I get home from work.

Thanks for this! :)

I had this as well so just left the ram at the speed it was reading. Now I'll downgrade the bios and hope it fixes it. Was driving me mad! Took ages to boot at 800mhz :P
