xms3 memory

That kit is a triple channel kit and is made for triple channel motherboards using the X58 chipset.

P67 chipset boards like the one you have run memory in dual channel mode - so if you are buying new I would not suggest buying a triple channel kit - as it will most likely only run in single channel mode. You want a kit with 2 or 4 sticks to run in dual channel mode.

As for overclocking the memory. You can certainly try - but as with all overclocking, nothing is guaranteed. To be honest - 1600MHz DDR3 (running in dual channel mode) is a very quick arrangement. Have a look at this comparison.

If you haven't already got the 6GB kit, then I would suggest this kit if you only need 4GB and this kit if you feel you need 8GB. Both of these kits will work fine with your P67 board and will run in dual channel mode.

the bundle that i got came with the motherboard i5 2500k and 4gb of that memory but i though i would get another 4gb of memory but i can only get one stick of 2gb memory because the cooler is stopping me from putting the other 2gb of memory in so i just put the extra 2gb of memory in

Ah, I see.

May I ask what cooler you are using and what model gigabyte board you have?

Also, could you run CPU-Z and go into the "memory" tab and see what it says next to "Channels #"?

Edit: Since that RAM is low profile, it should work fine. Have you tried removing the CPU cooler, installing the final RAM stick and then reinstalling the cooler?

Does it say anywhere on the "memory" tab either "single" or "double"?

Also, have you tried installing the last module of RAM like I described in the last paragraph of my previous post? (I added it as an edit as I remembered that many people had this problem with the gigabyte P67 boards and similar cooler -this remedied the problem).

You probably only need to remove the fan which is held on by 4 rubber mounts.

Just be gentle with the rubber the mounts and note which way the fan is fitted (which way it blows).

Pull the fan gently off and the rubber mounts should come out.

When you want to put the fan back on gently pull the rubber mounts through the holes in the fan.
