New thread for a diff problem i dont want to muddy up the threads with a clump of questions.

Whats the best way to set up the xonar control panel? I have my speakers connected with toslink through the spdif, but if i select PCM(no idea what this is) and then try the test the rear and center speakers dont work. If i set it to dolby digital live then they do work? Should it be set to live all the time or am i just setting it up wrong.

Also its asking to pick channels for diff things and also a sample rate? Should i set the sample rate to the highest possible? This is mostly for playing games and listening to mp3.

If someone can basically run me through setting each of the settings on the audio panel for optimal setup i would really appreciate it as feel lost.

If you're using the SPDIF connection then the max sampling rate for 5.1 is,I believe only 96Khz.You've probably got it set at 192 which won't work properly.

You'd probably be better off using the analogue connections as you can make use of the full 192khz over 5.1 this way, also the DACs in the Xonars are apparently excellent so using only spdif is a bit of a waste really.

See this is exactly my problem. I assumed a digital connection would be far better than some old analogue one? So thats where i am going wrong.

However, if i plug my inspires in using analogue how would i get my headphones in? :|

You can plug your headphones into the front out socket of the D1,just swap with your speakers front out as and when required.

PCM over spdif is 2 channel only. Dolby digital (or dts) is the correct setting if you want multi channel over spdif. dont get too hung up on whether spdif or analogue is better unless youre running some serious home theatre gear. more often than not, computer speakers and cheap av setup's will respond better to sdpif than they do analogue inputs.

Thankyou :)
