Hi all,

I've recently bought an Asus Xonar D2X and when playing music it sounds like the volume is adjusting itself every few seconds and causing a (very slight but I can still pick up on it!) 'warbling' type effect...sometimes going quite loud and then dropping itself back down again

I can confirm that SVM is switched off...it happens in all media players and in all the different modes

Currently running it on Vista x64

Does anybody have any ideas? Or is this something really obvious? :p

Thanks,

Scott C

Mmm can't really help much other than say I've not noticed it with my card.

Have you tried maybe installing the latest drivers off the Asus site?

hmmm.

make sure SVN is off (button under the volume control in the audio center)
make suer the speaker voluems are all set to default too. again in the audio center, they should be set to 76 for all channels.

Wait up

Wasnt that the whole purpose of SVM ? to normalize and make music sound consistant and not so erradict and wobbly ?

Edit everyone seems to be switching it off just googled it! lol ive always thought it was best to leave it enabled and switched on under my Xfi control panel....

Man I gotta re-listen to 2 years worth of films/music in case I missed anything out !

lol:p

i cant remember how it works on the xfi, but on the xonars you can sometimes hear it pulling the volume down as a big bass note hits or something like that. its not how music should be with quite passages being loud and loud passages being no louder:)

Yeah good to hear and know literally, I prefer to listen to music/films plain and simple stereo the way it was originaly intended and untouched :)

To the OP. I'd say try the latest Beta drivers from the website. I installed them straight over the top of the CD one's and had no issues. :)

Thanks for the replies guys :)

I reset everything and either it's ok now or I've just got used to it :p

Was certainly never a problem with the X-Fi that it replaced, however I'm sure it'll be fine :)

Do the latest beta drivers support EAX3/4/5 yet? I tried to enable EAX4 in Medieval Total War 2 and it just gave me errors?

Thanks,

Scott C

No it only supports EAX2.0 + EAX 5.0. Anything else probably needs to be set ingame to non EAX 3.0-4.0 then the Xonar will use its Directsound drivers.

Creative sold Asus a licence for EAX1.0-2.0 the EAX5.0 is emulated in software only.

"3D Gaming Sound Engines/APIs
Vista: DirectSound3D® GX 1.0, EAX®2.0&1.0, DirectSound® HW, DirectSound SW, A3D®1.0, OpenAL generic modes, 128 3D sounds processing capability
XP: EAX®2.0&1.0, DirectSound® HW, DirectSound SW, A3D®1.0, OpenAL generic modes, 128 3D sounds processing capability"

yes does nothing

thats weird i can use mine. did you also click on the little eye symbol underneath it? that turns on monitoring and should work.

Not sure!! I mean I have dual booting XP + Vista (both 32 bit) and have tried Bioshock, HL2 & Assasins Creed on both Os's and to me they sound more or less the same on headphones but no matter what settings I use in the Xonar control panel it makes very little difference and so far I cannot enabled EAX in Bioshock at all (hence the unsure part). Sorry but I am very confused by the way the Xonar is working with EAX. :(
