xonar d2x max volume

Hi
ive just updated to win 8.1 and at the same time I added an xonar d2x pci-e sound card. now ive installed the drivers but the volumes not as loud as it should be. for example at 100% its not lound enough to fill the room where previously it was. does anyone know if theres any settings I should be changing?

Surely it's your speakers that limit how loud you can go, all you can do is max windows volume, which should be tied to the volume in the D2X control console.

what I mean is that in windows 7 when I used the onboard sound at 100% it would be really loud I would normally keep it at 50 but since installing 8.1 and the asus xonar soundcard at 100% the vol is no where near as lound as it used to be. was wondering if there any settings in 8.1 that could be affecting this

is the motherboard sound still loud under windows 8.1 or has that gone quiet too?

8.1 is quieter, ive noticed it as well.

it's not this new EU nonsense where they limit maximum volumes to a set decibel level by any chance?

windows is set to automatically lower the volumn if it detects communications activity. try playing with that

I haven't noticed it beind quieter but then i use an amp i don't recall turning it up more but i can't remember now.

Everything working fine here also. But am not using Asus drivers.

thanks for the replies guy. ive actually ended up going back to windows 7 as couldn't get passed the font issue on 8.1. sounds is fine on 7 as well

didn't like the way text is rendered. messing around with the settings didn't make much difference and after a bit found it to strain my eyes more so went back

It is the same unless you have increased the scaling level in windows (make the icons / fonts etc bigger). MS changed the way scaling works in windows 8. When it works it's great, but apps have to be made compatible and there are some surprising apps that dont work properly, ie: Chrome becomes a blurry mess yet IE is perfect.

It would explain it if the op was using scaling; it might have a 4k display and decided everything was a bit too small.

I see there are some places to just download some new skins now for windows I know they have had skins before but they look good.
Personally never had an issue with 8.1 and lookss fine on 1440 however I've not got 4k to try it on
