Xonar D2X Review

The Xonars are fantastic, either you have a faulty card or you should try reinstalling.

Can't really bad mouth it when you may just have a faulty card, every piece of hardware has its duds...

I Truely hate sites with review features on them.

Especially when I need to see a good in depth review of a product only when typed " blah blah review" into Google I get crap loads of store reviews from customers that either whinge or brown nose the product.

oh god i could go on , people "reviewing" items or products that have not even come out anywere and then say "its going to be great" , realy dont get people that do that , also peeps that auto give a game 0 for having DRM , yes people don't like it yes mark it down for that but 0 ? your reviewing giving thoughs on the game as a whole not just if it got DRM. could go on but generaly such a thing as "user reviews" are tripe and not useful at all, forum posts and discussions on a item/product/game is a much better way of seeing if something is good for you to buy or not

Maybe the OP had a dodgy card or lacked the technical skills to set it up as not heard of anyone have the analog outputs switch on the fly before. Asus have a dedicated support forum for these so maybe worth checking that out as well.

Perhaps a dodgy card, however technical skills to set it up? I do beg your pardon but what technical skills should you need to set up a sound card. If you wish I can give you a long list of the exhaustive methods I trialled over the week before returning it. As well as the list the other guys went through as they tried to get the card working. (I work for a computer repair/sales company so had the card/computer it was installed in passed around the departments)

Do you really think I did not check the forum? Just google "D2X 5.1 Problem".

The reason they do not supply the powerdvd key is because Cyberlink insist on this method as in the past people have stolen the keys.

There is more than just PowerDVD bundled with it. Rightmark Audio Analyzer, Cakewalk and Ableton Live also do not come with the required CD Keys. That is 4 different CD Keys you have to claim in order to use the "Bundled Software". They should have set up a system whereby you provide a S/N and get your keys sent to you immediately.

As to negative reviews thats pure BS as I just checked and there are several bad ones floating around even some of the Asus soundcards get slated on here but I think a lot of the time most of what OCUK sell is pretty high quality and a lot of negative issues are caused by user errors when they lack the technical knowledge to make something work.
Why am I here complaining if it is "Pure BS"?! Both of my good reviews of products have passed their extensive checks whereas both my negative reviews have been removed/dumbed down.

My other negative review was on an OCZ SSD where I tried to warn people of the stuttering issues with them providing an in depth review and links to several sources to back up everything I said. My review was then replaced with a dumbed down one liner a week later stating "Watch out, these have some stuttering issues [Link to sites I had supplied]"

Have now bought an X-Fi Titanium and 0 issues...I left Creative after an X-Fi Extreme Gamer and Vista issues for the Xonar D2X and have now come full turn again. Does not sound quite as good in music as the D2X did when the channels did hold their own, however it does still sound pretty damn fantastic in games. :)

i honestly don't know, i'm no sound buff

i just listened to music and played TF2 / Grid / Company of Heroes :)

thought ud drop in here as i saw someone with the hd595 and i now own both the hd 595 and xonar d2.

i had the dx at first which refused to work and the floppy power cable was a nightmare so i uninstalled the software(with c++ errors so had to delete the folder i think cant remember lol)

so i got a refund and bought the d2 and this is where things get interesting.

sound quality right now is just on par i would say with the onboard in clarity but the bass is immense infact i think its actually polluted the whole sound as the headphones actually rumble!

listening to the killers(only cd i own) i thought hmm im going to be blown away here but in fact im very unimpressed as its really bassy and some notes sound fuzzy.i was expecting cd's to blow my ears off even though im no music buff i expected immense clarity.im just playing the cd from the drive as well into mediamonkey.

also the control panel only works when i reinstall the drivers then fails so EQ/dsp dont exist.its still set to 192khz and 2 channel with eq off in the control panel.everything else inc speakers as default device in vista is 192khz also.

im seriously hoping the previous dx buggered the new d2 install and im just passing through audio without the proper quality otherwise im at my wits end when it comes to sound quality with both headphones and source and the quality of the killers cd in general has me tearing my hair out and staring unforgivingly at £225 worth of audio equipment?

advice/comments? im praying the culprit is my hd 595 havent had burn in +sound card being screwed.the headphones only have like 24hrs of playing games/music and never had pink noise burn in

Update on reviews.

Just drawing peeps attention to another thread on OCUK Review policy. I have just posted a review on their roccat kone mouse to the site in relation to the thread below:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17951484

See if this review gets published!

To save you going on there below is my review of it :)

Just posted a review of the Kone on the site, I wonder if it will be edited or just not passed at all! Below is all the details, a little harsh so I doubt it will be posted, but maybe someone will see my review here.

Review Title: Nothings Perfect!
Overall Product Rating: 2 (Given that it is fantastic, but if I have to send it away every month to swap it for one that someone else has used at my expense that knocks at least 3* from what would have been a 5* rating)

Your Review:

Exactly the same review as Edd's below but much less generous on the * rating!

As within one month my mouse wheel has broken (Not heavy use, most certainly should not have gone) and now the mouse needs to be replaced. So I need to bag it up and send it back to OCUK for a replacement which is going to have the same design flaw again! So obviously its awesome, but you have to get it serviced and replaced with someone else's refurbished one every other month so that takes the whole good mouse points away from it!

Ah well, other than that it is a flawless mouse! I am loving it, have my copperhead plugged in at the moment whilst I wait for the Kone to come back and must say I am missing the old chap already.

Again, it is annoying that the lights on the mouse do not turn off with the rest of the computer! Has me doing my bit for the environment though as I actually turn the whole thing off at the plug now though to fix this...

Your Name: Ben Hollands

A message after I posted it said the message needed to be checked for security, I wonder what could be considered dangerous in the above review lol.

And in my review I refer to Edd's review which I have added below as I thought his was all true to the mouse however slightly over generous!

LOVELY MOUSE
Reviewed by: Edd

This mouse has did everything I wanted it to do. Felt great, worked brilliantly and looked awesome. The only little problem I have had using this mouse is the lights don't turn off when you shut your pc down.

However ... becareful with that wheel ... it breaks ... (nice gaming mouse shouldn't break like that -1star)
