Xonar DG jack sensing

I asked this in elsewhere, but it wasn't really part of the thread so I'm posting it as a new one.. apologies for doubling up etc...

Anyway... dumb question time...

Is there ANY way to turn off jack sensing?

Why I ask is because I normally use;

* Game audio through 5.1 speakers from the rear outputs,
* ventrilo through a small "telephone" headset, (ie 1 small phone, 1 mic, means I can hear everything) plugged in the front panel

...at least I did with my onboard audio that had 6 outs rear and 2 front.

But of course with jack sensing I end up with the DG swapping to 2x front headphones..

Can this be done?

Can the DG run this set up?( It can run 8 channels apparently so it should be capable... 5.1+2...)

I've asked Asus but had the usual (non-existant) response..
*EDIT* had a response from Asus Support, "please speak to other Asus Support"...


Is my only option to try and run the onboard for front panel concurrently with DG for 5.1? and cross my fingers?

I should have researched better because I think I know the answer thats coming back to me.... I wouldn't have bought the card if I knew this...

I thought those drivers were basically "fixed", unlike Asus' own drivers... ie they were enhanced/fixed, but not providing additional features...

for further info... I'm currently trialing both onboard and the Xonar DG...

My mobo seems to be happy enough with both running at the moment, but I've only done minor testing...

Biostar TP67XE with Realtek R259 driver
Xonar DG with Asus' own 7.12.8.1793 Driver

• 5.1 speakers plugged into Xonar
• Single phone headset + mic plugged into rear mobo headphone and mic socket
  
• Front panel headers plugged into Xonar (so I can use the amped headphones when I want.)

I set Windows up so that, speakers default are Asus analogue, mic default is Mobo mic.

Then set up Ventrilo to use mobo mic as input and mobo socket as headphone, and put Headphone Virtualisation on. This is because I use a mono headset with single speaker, it puts most of both channels output through the one speaker.. the headset is a single flat small speaker like old crappy 80's walkman ones, but it means I can hear Ventrilo clearly through it, and I can hear all the 5.1 game sound past it... definatley NO noise cancellation here!!

I've only done a quick test.. seems ok.. will try later with full gaming with the clan...

Xonar's can only use either rear connections or the FP, not both simultaneously. Nothing to do with the jack auto sensing. Best way is what you are doing, using onboard audio for VOIP.

Thanks for that, I thought that was going to be the answer, even if I didn't want it!!

Then again, now I have the Xonar running main speakers and the onboard doing the voip stuff, I probably have the best of both worlds. At least I wont have to remember to change assignments whenever I swap between speakers and gaming headphones...

is that 16 channel audio???


PS Do you think there is enough reasons to start a thread for peeps to put up a list of mobos and sound cards that run together?
I know some will and some wont... might help as a basic resource.
