Xonar DX or D2X?

Probably going to go for the DX myself. Fed up with my X-Fi and it's crashing, crackling, and all-around issues.
 
I'm ordering a DX later tonight hopefully but can somebody answer me this;

Them little black ports are the PCI-E 1x slots aren't they? Just making sure, had a panic earlier than my mobo didn't have any. :D
 
Can the DX go in a PCIe x16 slot?

My only PCIe x1 slot is going to be taken by my graphics card cooler.

I wanted to drop it in the bottom x16 slot (which is mechanical x4) - is this okay?

The only other option is to go for the D2 (which is PCI).
 
wait....so i can put the card in a pci 16x slot????
thats great news considering i had to remove 1 stick of ram for the card to fit on my asus p5ke
 
On a side note I have my Xonar now and I'm loving it, noticeable SQ increase from onboard and the sound drivers offer a fantastic level of customization, unlike my old Audigy and onboard sound.

Dolby Headphone is superb, my headphones not only sound like 5.1 but they have far superior bass and clearer sound over what I last used them on. (onboard)

I have yet to try EAX but I'm going to try BioShock and Battlefield 2 later. :)
 
I've been impressed so far too.

Much cleaner and clearer sound with far better stereo imaging.

Running through a set of DNM Reson interconnects to a ProJect Head Box II amp then onto a set of Sennheiser HD595's.

Are you using the DX with Vista or XP?

If with Vista, any problems caused by drivers?
 
Vista64 - no problems at all.

It's running from one of the DS5's 1x PCI-E ports rather than the spare 16x too. :)

Really happy with it!
