Yes you are supposed to get white noise in the test. You need to indicate where the white noise seems to be coming from so you can gradually build a profile.
There are no generic profiles so it will only work once you've built your own. Take your time and listen to the tutorial. I was lost when I didn't listen to it but be patient and go through the whole process and you should get something working in the end.

My final settings are:-
Music - Headphone (Analog Out) with jazz preset.
Movies - 2 speakers (Analog Out) with Dolby Virtual Speaker ticked along with jazz preset.
Even though I select '2 speakers' I am still using headphones.
Not sure about games as yet.

Hmm, I'm not sure about this card.
I watched Avatar last night and there was relatively little 'punch' to the sound. Gunshots and effects just seem to lack general 'punch'. I've tried all sorts of settings. I've even tried turning all card settings off and using the software based DH and other settings.
For instance, in Drag Me To Hell, I remember almost jumping out of my seat at some of the jumpy/loud bits. I've just watched it again and the same effects just seem flat. It's kind of hard to explain. I'm not seeing any noticable improvement from my on board sound (except volume levels).
Maybe I was asking for or expecting too much!!?
By the way Uriel, I gave that MyEars another go. All me front sound seemed to come from front left. It didn't sound right and wasn't an improvement to what I have now. It would be easier if they didn't play that annoying 'hiss' sound when calibrating. A simple 'solid' noise would have been better.

I've just installed the Uni Xonar drivers from here. I had to install the 1788 1.01 ones as I couldn't get the HD Audio panel to install in the 1790's.
Things are MUCH better. Movies have more power, life and punch to them. Even DH isn't as echoey as it is on the Asus drivers. It's a big difference.
Shame on Asus that it took a 3rd party to sort their drivers out. I may well think twice about buying products from them in the future.

The drivers for all the sound card ive owned are shocking.
Does look interesting. Might be tempted to give them a whirl sometime. Have no issues with drivers, but it would be interesting to compare.
Asus and Creative need to sack their software dept staff and get in some people who know how to get the hardware working as it should. Wont happen, but we can hope. Thankfully there are modified Xonar drivers for the people who do get issues.

It was actually MoodyB off these forums that pointed me the way to these. I tried them a week or so ago but didn't really have anything to compare them to.
After using the Asus drivers for a while, I now realise how good these are.
I'm using the 7.1 virtual speaker with jazz settings now (for music). The sound seems much warmer and less harsh now.
