the amount of x's given to different people seems to be some magical system. Guys get 1, girls vary depending on who they are :p
 
I only sign off messages with x's to one male friend and everyone thinks we are gay together so it is OK (and part of the reason we do it anyway) :D
 
if texting a close female friend, I'll put one or two x's mother only gets one usually, male friends don't get anything, and SS gets loads :p
 
Whenever I txt back my also male best friend I say "love you xxxxx" at the end of every txt
 
because i text my girl friend so much and have always put a x as standard it starts to become second nature and i naturally put a x to anyone i text. my friends are the same anyway, its not like its gay or anything.
 
Depends on the person. I tend to reciprocate whatever someone sends me, if a girl doesn't put any x's, I won't. If a guy puts an x, I'll put one back. Although with guys I limit it to one x and thats all.

Occasionally for a joke, we might go over the top with xoxoxoxox <3 type stuff, but that only a joke.
