Hi all,

I've just formatted and have gone to activate windows and the (Legal) key that i have has been exceeded. So i take it i have to buy a whole new copy of XP?
 
nope it says:

According to our reccords, the number of times you can activate windows with this product key has been exceeded. Please enter a diffrent product key.

So new xp then by the sounds of it, dont really want to pay £60 for something i already own ( a CD) :/ shame i cant get just a new key.
 
By a second hand copy of OEM for around 20 quid & use that key ;)

Also you say "It" says, if you mean your system then ring Microsoft. I've rang them loads it takes around 5 minutes total to sort. If not then get your twenty out.

yeah but if i do that then how many times can i re-activate on that. :/
 
I couldn't tell you how many times i've reactivated after a failed overclocking session.
I just tell them i blew my mobo up. Works every time :)
 
i think as i've formatted so many times, and changed my mobo last year it gave up the ghost :(

Just curious if i can ask in members market for a key? or is that against the rules?

is your xp retail or oem?

if it retail u just need to call microsoft... all xp versions have a limited number of times to activate over the internet..

I put a wanted add in M&M only last week for a Genuine copy of XP & purchased one of a member who replied.
He Emailed me the key & posted the Disc. If all is genuine i see Nothing wrong with it.

Dons may corrrect me here if they like.
 
I had this a few weeks ago. So I just rang up the MS activation line and got a code to put into the Activation app. It worked so just try ringing them up before you go spending your money.
 
I did say ring them earlier. Perhaps now a few have said it he may pick up the phone.

It's that little square thing with numbers on it mate ;)

Okay , but if i say that my motherbord blew up, wont they have previous records of my hardware? and see with the new key that i still have the same hardware?
 
Just say you had to change a slot/component out of it. Dropped it in the fish tank & been waiting for it to dry naturally, Just say anything they don't care.
Basically it is a system that is being filtered in & not Nazi run.
Your copy of XP is legitimate & you have registered it, That really is All they care about.

microsoft doesn't know what you've changed.. they only know you've changed something...

i'm not saying you'll be licensed because u have changed your motherboard..
