When I rang up, I was asked how many computers I'd installed my copy of XP on.

FYI, XP activation status expires after a few months so even if you exceed the activation limit or change your hardware you can still auto-activate over the net after a couple of months, and there's no limit to how many times you can activate over the telephone.

OEM copies of XP are in practice exactly the same as regular copies.
