Hey guys I don't know why but my XP is being stupid. When i switch my pc on the xp boot screen loads but the my screen goes black when its finished loading. I think everything is loading fine just not showing up on my display.

It did work a few hours ago but when i removed the dvi cable from the graphics card and placed it into the other dvi slot, it then gave me the black screen. I did this when the pc was still on and was at the login screen.

I have tried booting into safe mode, works fine even starts in the right resolution. I have tried booting into vga enabled which works but when i try to increase the resolution i get the black screen again i am really confused as i can normally fix anything that goes wrong but this has boggled my mind lol.

Also i can boot into vista which works perfectly so i know it is something to do with xp and all my parts are working :D

Hope someone can give me a quick fix ;)

Cheers guys.

Do i really need to do that! Would think there is some sort of key to press to force the display to be recognised :(

As in put the disc in and press R, instead of re-installing.

Or do a system restore? Or upgrade the video drivers in safe mode?

but can can anything go wrong from just unplugging a dvi cable isn't it all plug n play?

Gona have a look for the disk not sure if i still have it :(

is it possible that windows has ****** up the refresh rate for the plug and play settings?

Sounds to me like something is forcing the refresh rate too high for the resolution. Are you using any kind of tool to tweak that?

Not using anything tried a system restore which didn't help as i don't have a restore point rofl

The monitor is connect with a DVI cable all i did was pull the cable out when the pc was switch on in windows and place the cable in the other dvi port on the graphics card. Not sure what windows has done here lol :(

I take it you have put the cable back in the original DVI port on the graphics card ? If not that should be step 1
I would still try a reinstall of drivers, I agree it sounds like the refresh rate screws up when settings are changed, hopefully a reinstall or upgrade to newer drivers should reset that

you could always try using an OS that's not 8 years old? :p

As above, remove and re-install your graphics drivers :)

put the cable back in the original DVI port

do this first!

if it is set to display on a certain dvi port then the other port would be disabled unless you had a monitor connected to it. so you would get a black screen until you put things back where they were

i tried putting it back in the same slot that was the first thing i did hehe.

Currently booting into save mode and will uninstall the drivers. Hope it works!

Also i would be using Vista if I had a driver that would work with my wifi card :p

Cheers guys managed to get it working by uninstalling the drivers in safe mode :D

Now i just need to download new nvidia drivers hehe

Thanks again all :)
