XP boot failure - ideas?

I installed some new drives on my scsi rig and have ended up losing Windows. I had the usual string of corruptions (Hal.dll went  )

I replaced Hal.dll, did a Fixmbr, and Fixboot. I've taken out the offending enclosure and it still won't boot. I can get into Safe Mode without network support, but if I try it with network support it hangs. I've tried switching off the 2 Gigabit ports on the mobo (Nforce and Marvell on a DFI-Sli DR) but that doesn't help.

Am about to for a full reformat and start again - but thought I'd float it here and see if anyone has any ideas.

I initially thought it was the ubiquitous Mup.sys as that's where it appeared to hang, but this is not the case - did some research and it was suggested that it might have been a hardware conflict (new drives...) so I reset the ESCD in the bios - no joy - reset the bios - no joy.

Help?

go into safemode and remove all drivers, display/chipset/sound/lan/tvcard and use driver cleaner . then see what happens if it works then resinstall lastest drivers

Being that it's the network that's causing the fault I can't see this helping - especially as I've disabled the onboard controllers - I will try re-installing the marvell and nforce drivers but not convinced.

windows repair?

Not sure what you mean really? I've done all the obvious things in the recovery console...

I replaced Hal.dll, did a Fixmbr, and Fixboot

Is there something else I can use to do the repair? I'm sure the older versions of windows had a 'repair windows' option when you boot off the CD but I can't find it for XP pro?

(I also ran chkdsk but found no faults)

boot into a xp pro cd. Tell it to install windows, F8 the EULA and then it should find a previous windows install. Press R and it will repair that windows install.

Ahhhhh - knew it was there somewhere - decided to re-order all my drives so it was the big format! Thanks for the help.
