Hi i was doing a friend a favour by trying to remove some rouge antivirus spyware.

After sorting that out i decided to do some windows updates like sp3 ect and for some reason this failed, fair enough so i restarted and now it wont boot :( normal or safe mode. it gets to windows loading bar screen the blue screens.

it is a packardbell easynote r1005 laptop and has windows preinstalled with PB recovery program installed also, which i have tryed, all seems to go ok for a bit during recovery and up pops (runtime error 2147024873 automation error 8007007 data error cyclic redundancy check.

Now the thing is this laptop has a lot of coursework & photos on it and i gotta save them :(

so does anyone know how i can recover windows using a recovery program so i can boot in? Or how i can save all these important files

also i dont got any xp disk but i do have a oem vista disk could i use this to install vista and let it create the windows old folder which i think will save what i need?

Im ready to cry please help:)

well you can use bartPE, ive used this in the past (similar versions) and its worked great, lets you access your whole system, save files to usb or burn stuff, you can customise the cd too to add lots of other tools and applications etc..

if your getting the crc errors then its usually the drive (cd or hard drive) can not be read properly

try doing checkdisk chkdsk /f if you can get to command prompt

Hi thanks for your reply!!
I am running chkdsk /r as i type and its @ 50% and has been for a while ,is this normal?
if this dont work i,ll try that prog u recommend,u say it can save files from the windows install or can it help repair it?

yeah check disk can take a while especially steps 2 or 3 i cant remember exactly

but yeah barts pe environment is a like windows pe booted up from the cd, and you can use windows (more or less) to access the files etc... you can transfer them onto a usb memory stick, or burn the files on cd / dvd (with the right plugins installed), partition drives, format, and a lot more

its basically windows installed on the cd

If all else fails you may be able to slave that drive in a different laptop/computer via an external adaptor and just use some sort of data recovery program. GetBackData is a good one.

Ok chkdsk is @ 61% :( but at least its moving
also i tryed to make a pe disk but its coming up with 118 errors and wont do it it says i must fix them, lol how do i go about doing that?
