Hi, thanks for looking at this thread guys,

My windows XP install on my SATA HDD has become corrupt. When I put the XP CD in to repair the install it says it cannot find a HDD (premsumably because its a SATA HDD and not an IDE HDD).

What can be done to prevent me from doing a new install.

Press F6 and install the SATA drivers for the controller. :)

Thanks for that, done :D

Still got problems with XP booting up. Would I be able to reinstall XP on the same drive without losing any of my games/pictures/ work files etc etc.....?

borrow or use an old hdd put windows on it and drag your stuff across. also sometimes if you use another drive windows will repair the errors on the secondary drive. but then again your hard drive could be broken :(

This is one of the many good reasons why one should use partitions.

The simplest option is to boot into a Pre-Installer (CD or DVD) (SuperWin PE 2005 ownZ) and then backup all your important files onto cd/dvd or external USB/firewire HD.
