XP ftp server and "FTP Folder Error" message

On my Desktop I have got 2 OSs XP and Win2003, I was trying to enable ftp server on both OSs.

I was trying to test XP for FTP server.

Client is my laptop (win2003).


When i was trying to do ftp from client laptop (2003) to server desktop (XP), first time i was able to see files on desktop, then after that I received these error message :

The server at 192.168.164.163 is taking too long to respond.

After re-reading your post (and understanding this time round!) I would agree with Skilldibop, its likely to be a firewall thats causing you problems - try disabling them temporarily to see if that helps.

Also, in IIS you can right click the FTP site and select Browse - this should either prompt for a u/n and p/w or let you straight into the folder structure (depending on your authentication method). If this works then its very likely to be a firewall issue.

By following the steps in the link above, I repeated the configuration just to be in the safe site, I received the same error.

By the way I have no firewall on both PCs.

I have got two NICs on XP Desktop, I have been told that may be existing two NICs affect the FTP connection (I am not sure), by the way one NIC is connected to LAN and the I unplegged cable from other
