i have recently installed xp onmy computer, i had it running and i installed various drivers etc etc.
but i restarted it and now the computer wont boot windows.
it comes up with a message saying
"disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"
i have tried inserting the windows xp dist but the same message comes up.

any ideas as what i need to do to fix it

cheers :D

I get the same problem after a clean install, Windows downloads the Service Pack 2 update.
When the computer reboots it just hangs on a blank screen, no error message though.

Still trying to figure out what the heck is wrong. Might just install Vista Beta if all else fails.

My laptop does exactly that if I install using the original windows CD but, It's OK if I use a slipstreamed CD with the service pack on it.

OT maybe one of the drivers you have installed is causing problems with the hard drive controller? Have you checked for updated drivers from the board manufacturers site?

Make sure that your hard drive is above your cd drive in the boot settings via the bios

well theres no floppy in the drive, the HD is at the top of the boot list (the hd with xp on it)

i have had this pc working fine for a year, i have just recently formatted and there was no need to download extra drivers before.

i reformatted again today and i still have the problem

double check the config for booting

remember it goes IDE0, IDE1, IDE2 etc..

try taking out all other hard drives

Is it a SATA drive?

if so did you hit F6 to install the sata drivers at the start of the install?
