I have a slight issue when booting up XP. It's not that important as it doens't seem to be that important but I was just wondering if any one knew what was causing it.

Basically after if boots past the XP loading screen it seems to take a hell of a long time, sometimes up to 15 seconds to reach the log in screen. Then, once it reaches the log in screen the background is black as opposed to the usual blue however the log in box appears as normal.

Both of these things seem to happen at once. As I said, it doens't seem to be affecting anything but I'm assuming something isn't 100% right else it would happen. I'm running XP with service pack 2.

Any ideas?

When was the last time you check for virii etc? Slowing down is usually associated with lots of rubbish running on the system.. Probably best to do a clear out of other crap on your system you dont use.

Well I've recently run both spybot and adaware, and I also have avast installed as my anti virus.

I don't really have much on my system, perhaps 15 -20 programs on it. It just suddently happened so didn't really just start to take longer gradually. Also, the fact that my log on screen background has gone black indiacates that something is wrong doens't it?

have a look for bootvis, run that through and it should give you an idea of what you're system is doing during boot up.

I had a problem much like this a few weeks back, it turned out to be a faulty DVD Recorder that had failed in my case.

I have no idea what that means, or if it's correct so can someone help?

As far as I can see the only stange thing that seems to be occuring is that 4 rundll32 applcations are running. Looking from what I can see on google it's normal for it to start up, but should it do this 4 times?
