xp loading problem

hey

my dad got an old pc that he wants me to fix up for him

so i formated an installed using the xp disk that came with it

installed fine no problems but when it boots without the windows cd in i get the message

"boot from atapi cdrom, boot from atapi cdrom, boot disk failure , insert system disk an try again"

if i press anything i jus get the same message

so i put the windows disk in and it says:

"press any key to boot atapi..."

i wait an it loads windows fine.

can any1 tell me why it does this? never happened on any other pc i put xp on,

as i say it rather old, not sure how old has a soc A abit board and an xp 1100 i believe.

Have you checked the boot order in the BIOS? If it is old it might not be looking in the right place to boot or something.

it set to boot hdd first, i even took out cdrom from the list an it still does it.
