xp-m2600 to Opteron 146

Clock for clock my 2800+ sempron is much faster than my old T'Bred. Both running 256k cache and at 2.3 the sempron feels faster everywhere and for gaming it's in a different league.

And the Sempron only has a widdly little cache so your opteron will be stonking

hi all, my current xp-m is running at 2.5ghz, was wondering if i can overclock the opteron i have on order to 2.5ghz as well then will there be much difference between the 2 setups?

Well I upgraded from a xp-m 2400 @ 2600mhz, to my current 146 cabye 540.

And straight out of the box had it running @ 2800mhz, its loads faster.

Last night I had it running at 3100mhz on 1:1 with my Geil one memory, stupidly fast in Doom 3 ! no volt mods still using 1.45 on my asrock sata2

Then I got bored and tried for 3200mhz still using my artic cooler 64 pro, It didn't work ! probably need more volts.

As I seam to remember even the worst Opteron 146's where something like "CABYG" stepping and they Oc'd to 2700 and everyone complained that they where naff !

why are you still running at 2960mhz if you had it at 3100?

If you remember the 'worst opteron 146 clocks' thread some didnt manage 2300

i got mine to boot at 3100mhz but it wasnt stable at all. at 3000 superPI crashed after about 2minutes and at 2900 it crashed after a few hours of prime. 2800 is 24hour prime stable

edit- what do you get in doom 3? i run in 1600x1200, 4xaa ultra settings and get around 60fps ish, in battle it drops to 30 at the least. In quake 4 however 1600x1200 and 4xaa can drop to 24fps!!

Whatever you do DONT use XP 64. It's the bigest waste of time since Windows ME.

I used it for a few months. No 64 bit drivers for my web cam. Netgear dont do 64bit drivers. F.E.A.R. wouldn't run. Photoshop was slower than on XP Pro. I.E. crashed a lot. Some other programmes wouldn't even run.
:(

right, everything is up and running now. problem is that no 3d stuff works.

iv installed the x64 driver from nvidia site and all i get when running 3dmark is a black screen
what am i doing wrong?

nevermind i fixed it. problem was the agp driver. uninstalled the display driver then rebooted, then uninstalled the agp driver then rebooted then installed the uli agp driver from asrock site then rebooted then installed nvidia driver.

heheh,

another xp-m retires :(

btw - that board you got is not a great clocker out of the box - but if you look on xs theres a huge set of mods for it, some guys posted stable htts of 370 after modding, also more vcore and vdimm and the like :)

how are you finding it so far?

board itself is good but agp performance seems to be dodgey in xp x64. think its down to the agp driver.
but gonna get a faster gfx card now probably a 7900gt since my gfx card will be the limiting factor now.

also a very good response time in windows. everything just feels so much smoother.

also at stock speeds of 2ghz this opty beat the super pi 1m and 32m scores of my xp-m at 2.5ghz core speed.

one thing i can;t get is the very low temps, not used to temps this low since the xp-m used to run quite hot.

i got a peak temp of 46c running snm for a few hours. the good old g-power bl is not too bad.
