hi all,

Im having a problem with my Vista machine, for some reason all of the XP machines on my workgroup cant access MY vista pc - they get prompted for a username and password. my xp machines dont have any trouble accessing any of the other vista machines on the network so i figure ive messed something up some where either with the use accounts, permissions or both. if any one has any ideas i would greatly appreciate the help.

correction - i attempted to format and start again... now the other vista machines get prompted for user names and passwords as well... im using a custom vista disk, perhaps something has been removed that shouldnt have been?

Have you got simple file sharing enabled? (I assume Vista has this as well as xp)

If not, the only way to access the shares without having to input a uname/pword is to save the credentials - however, this feature is only available on XP pro, not home.

ok my friend was correct, it was to do with the guest accounts. xp is supposed to try the guest account by default and if that doesnt have acces rights its supposed to prompt for a logon that does - the question is, why are my xp machines not defaulting to using the guest account first?
