Hi all,

just tried installing windows xp on my 8 gig partition, i did a quick NTSF format followed then by a reboot which I then got a "error loading operating system"... I then changed the access mode to large - i looked on the internet - helped most people. BUT now im getting a "disk read error press ctl + alt + dlt to restart"

Any solutions? my 2nd HD is on jumper Cable select and ive still got that plugged in. Also, i made this 8gig partition through XP on my 2nd HD with no errors... this is driving me crazy

cheers.

nope, it does all the extracting and reading etc then it asks you which partition/drive to install on so I choose my 8gb then I choose NTSF format (theres also some FAT option) it formats, then sets it up? then it reboots.. this is where it shows the error messgage.... but it should then go onto the Windows GUI setup screen - yea?

cheers.

sigh... so is there is there anything I can do or should I delete the partition so i can go back onto vista? (its on the rest on the HD)

Could I try unplugging my 160gb HD? Should I try re-partitioning it?

edit

oops mis-read that last post.

the boot order's CD > Hard drive > CD (floppy drive was 1st)

just through lookinng at the internet I noticed "cable select" - which ive got on my slave drive (not the one im trying to install xp on) - could this be doing something?

cheers.

try setting both to cable select. i only use cable select as i often swap harddrives from master to salve,

the hardrive furthest away from the mobo on the cable is master and the one in the modle is slave.

try having only the hardrive you want xp on plugged in (remove bothe cables from the other harddrive and check the ones in the main hdd)

and see what happens
