XP password.

Hello.

I've just updated my girlfriends laptop and installed XP SP3.

Rebooted and now its asking for a password.

There was no password set before, and i haven't set one so what the hell is going on?

And how can i gain access?

I really need to sort it before she gets home otherwise she'll go mental :eek:

my guess is that there was a password set before but it was set to auto-logon previously. Looks like installing the service pack has removed the auto-logon.

Probably the only options are to guess what password might have been set - or use one of the tools which will reset or brute-force the password.

Try logging onto the "hidden administrator". If its using the welcome screen, press Ctrl + Alt + Del teice, and type "administrator" and use that.

If not, download OPHCrack, this will tell you the password by booting off the CD.
