I've seen benchmarks showing the advantage of quad over dual for 3d rendering, video encoding etc ?)....yet no mention what OS they were using at the time.

Will quad work well under XP pro ??. Is it limited to the number of cores as Win 2000 was ?. Don't tell me I need Vista !.

What about the upcoming Crysis, will that take advantage of quad ??

Some may find the following of interest if you have winXP pro...

I beleive crysis will work on quad cores, but its optimized for duel core more then quads as thats what they are building on.

Of coarse it may run just as good on quad cores as duel cores. But i believe its aimed more at duel then quad. But that doesn't mean it would run better on duel, its just that it will get more out of the duels then the quads i gues.

Nope, it's optimized for the core 2 instruction set, and in the Crytek developer partners video a spokesman for Intel specifically states it's optimized for Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme processors.

so basically your saying....

it will run on quad but should be better on dual but might be better on quad but your not sure and could be better on dual than quad but quad might acually be better but it might be omptimised better for dual or it might not but your not sure so you think dual will be better, although quad could be a good option too...

GET SOME FACTS...and stop babbling

Watch the interview on the Intel site with the engine designers, they all say that the game is optimised for core2quad and core2extreme (quad variants)

XP pro works fine with quads, as does it's x64 version, vista seems to manage multiple cores much better though.
